Canadian Company: Artifact Skin Co.

Posted on July 21, 2014March 30, 2020 by Elaine

I love discovering new Canadian companies since I think it’s important to support local businesses when you can. I was very excited and intrigued when I first discovered Artifact Skin Co. at the One of Kind Show.

Artifact Skin Co. currently has 6 masques and 1 brush available in their collection. Each masque is made in the Toronto area using natural ingredients found around the world. Each masque also has a story behind it and the place the ingredients come from.

I was drawn to the Glacial Coast Detox Masque since it’s formulated to detoxify and refine pores.

I loved how the masque arrived – so much care has been taken into the wrapping and packaging too. The founders Elie Nehme and Narae Kim both have backgrounds in design (architecture I believe!) so I’m not surprised at how much thought was put into every aspect of the product.

I’m already in love with this product and this is JUST the outer packaging. It definitely reminds of a cool ocean breeze.

The masque itself comes in a  simple but very elegant glass jar and it’s accompanied with a small spatula for scooping up the masque.

The Glacial Coast Detox masque uses glacial marine clay, benetonite clay and peppermint + strawberry extracts to absorb dirt and oil, draw out impurities, retain moisture and tone dull skin. The masque feels great on the skin. I usually apply the masque to my face, make myself a tea and flip through a magazine or browse some websites. It’s probably best to put this masque on when you have some alone time – you may get funny looks from the other members of your household 😉

This masque dries to an almost white colour but unlike other clay masques I have tried in the past it didn’t feel so dry that my skin felt tight that it “itched”. It also came off very easily with water and cotton pads. My skin felt quite soft afterwards and felt refreshed.

The masques are on the pricier side at $42 each but when you check out the quality of ingredients used you’ll understand why. This isn’t a product that is mass produced – it’s made in small batches and addresses multiple needs.

I’m looking forward to perhaps trying out the Eygptian Honey Rose masque next – I remember it smelling AMAZING at the One of a Kind Show!

Be sure to check out Artifact Skin Co. – a  fabulous Canadian company –  on their website and also on their lovely blog which shares useful DIY tips and tricks, recipes and more!

Looks great! Masks are one of those things that are so potent that I’m used to seeing them at a higher price point than say, moisturizers or cleansers. I’d personally splurge on them because they magically transform the face in a snap. 🙂

Agreed! And you’re not using them everyday anyway so they’re really like a luxurious treatment.

The packaging is amazing. And even though it’s on the pricier side, you probably wouldn’t go through it super quickly anyways! 🙂 It’s always nice to support local and small businesses!

I agree! While I’m definitely budget conscious I’m more inclined to spend more money if the ingredients are of good quality, I love the company of most importantly the product works!
