TESTING, TESTING: Dot & Lil’s Facial Serum

Posted on January 13, 2013March 30, 2020 by Elaine

It’s no secret that Dot & Lil has become one of my favourite beauty companies around. If you remember, I fell in love with their Rose Flower soap and perfume, and they’ve been staples in my beauty routine ever since.

Now, Dot & Lil has launched a new product to their ever expansive line – and it happens to the be the very first product for skincare.

Thanks to a very rotten cold, my skin has taken a beating this year. You know that terrible reaction your skin has whenever you are under the weather? I’ve had that big time – dry skin, bland complexion and general paleness all around! What a perfect time to introduce a hydrating serum into my skincare routine! And luckily, the results were luxurious!

Product: Dot & Lil Facial Serum

Price: $25.00 (CAN)

Available: Online here

What It Claims: “…light multipurposed formula, great for all skin types and ages, light oil based product…”

Product Ingredients: Dot & Lil prides themselves on being all natural: olive squalane, prunus amygdalus dulcis oil (sweet almond oil), oryza sativa oil (rice bran oil), rosa mosqueta oil (rosehip seed oil), citrus bergamia oil (bergapetene -free bergamot essential oil), salvia sclarea oil (clary sage essential oil), tocopherol (vitamin e)

Review: With the dreaded cold & flu season, comes the constant need for kleenex. Because of that, the skin around my nose is literally raw. This cold was wrecking total havoc on the complexion – dry, scaly skin and pale skin were my friends. My regular routine moisturizer wasn’t cut to the challenge – ‘sick’ skin tends to have a way to fighting against whatever you do to fix it. Then I decided to try out Dot & Lil’s serum.

When I met the Anne, the owner of Dot & Lil back in November, she told me all about her new addition – the facial serum. I was immediately excited, but it fell on the back-burner in terms of products to try. Now, I’m a little bummed I waited so long.

The serum is oil based – it’s lighter than I thought it would be. You only need very little to coat your entire face (I’m talking like 3-4 drops). Even though the product is mainly oil based, your skin soaks it up almost instantly. You may only need about 2 minutes before you can put makeup on top of it. Also, it adds literally no shine to your face. Perfect!

The serum has a very light scent – which is perfect for us individuals with sensitive or ‘sick’ skin. The scent itself is quite pleasant – little bit of rose and sage extracts can be noted.

Another interesting thing – the bottle and the dispenser! The bottle is a blue apothecary glass dropper. You literally apply the product with a dropper. So interesting and unique!

In terms of my ‘sick’ skin, it drank this up like it was dying of thirst! It provided such intense moisturization for my dry skin, and I’m so grateful!

Final Verdict: While some might grumble over the price tag, remember that this serum will last a very long time. Since a few drops are needed per application, you’ve instantly got a couple month supply per bottle. I love the absorbency of the oil and the fact that it instantly drenches your skin with moisturization.

Fun Fact: The serum could be used for multiple purposes (great for vacation!). It can act as a makeup remover, a salve for burns, a cleansing oil, etc.

Anyone else had a positive experience with serums? Does anyone have any ‘sick’ skin remedies? My email, as always, is ashley@torontobeautyreviews.com, but now, you can also follow me on twitter (@AshleyMcKernan). Follow me here today!

I love it too! I picked it up at the One of a Kind Show, and I use it twice daily. Best 🙂
