Tried and True: Avon’s Ultra Colour Rich Lipstick in Pretty + Getting Personal

Posted on January 11, 2013March 30, 2020 by Elaine

This post will be a strange one. Many of you can hopefully relate if you can’t try to sympathize 😉

As you know, I’ve been obsessing with my skin for a while now. Break outs are NOT fun people especially when you can’t figure out the cause! Most people can relate to being self conscious at one point or another. For a beauty blogger I feel like the anxiety level goes up even more! I haven’t been taking “close up” shots and for awhile wasn’t taking pictures of myself at all! Then there’s going to events where I DREADED seeing people as I was worried about what they would think.

The comfort of being with people that you see everyday makes you feel a little safer since they can kind of see your daily struggle. However, there are some REALLY insensitive people out there.

I actually had someone (a co-worker) come up to me while I was in conversation with other people about something completely unrelated and essentially ask me what happened to my face and why did I have pimples everywhere.

Yup. This REALLY happened.

Fast forwarding…even though this was a person that I don’t particularly have a lot of respect for anyway it still upset me! I’m not really sure who wouldn’t be upset by a comment like that but if you wouldn’t be please share with me your secret!

I’ve found that talking about it with friends that “get me” helped a lot. And I was actually given a confidence boost when people that didn’t know how I was feeling commented on how my skin seemed to be getting better and also how much they loved the bright lipstick I was wearing LOL!  Yes…my lesson in all this is that a lipstick CAN make you feel better! No wonder when there is a “recession” lipstick sales seem to go up. I totally understand this concept now!

So…this is one of the lipsticks I was wearing that I got compliments on.

Avon Ultra Colour Rich Lipstick in “Pretty”

This colour REALLY is so pretty! It just glides on and has a nice satin finish to it. It feels creamy on the lips so they stay moisturized.

For me the colour is bright but not TOO bright. I think for those of you that can’t break away from the neutrals this is a good shade to try since it’s not SUPER pigmented but definitely still gives a pop of colour.
(I’m going to be brave here and show a close up of my lips…my skin isn’t AS bad here but it kind of fluctuates from ok to really bad…)

So yeah, this is me.

Does a lipstick completely change how you feel too?

Hey Ella! Yes – I know you know how I feel we’ve had conversations about this. So frustrating that you don’t even know what caused it! Hopefully you’ll never have to go through it again!

Wow – so sorry you had to deal with such an insensitive co-worker…As you know – I went through major breakouts recently as well – thank goodness for full coverage make-up – I would have been lost without it – it definitely made me feel so much better to be able to cover up most of my acne (though the bumpiness would remain).

And I also don’t know what caused it – or why it’s gotten better. I’m grateful it has, but I don’t know how to prevent it from ever happening again 🙁

The lipstick looks gorgeous on you – it looks moisturizing and highly pigmented!

Oh, Elaine, there will always be people like that who have no decency nor tact. They are the problem, not you. I think you are beautiful inside and out and what you have achieved and the impact you have on others especially women, is something to be proud of. 🙂 – Louise

It’s really hard to pick out the colours from the book. Thank goodness their return policy is really good! Check out the link in the blog – it will point you to that colour!

Ooh I hope you have it Michelle, it would look gorgeous on you! Thank you so much for sharing your story! I guess as we get older we realize not to put so much emphasis on the “flaws” – I honestly never even gave your mole a second thought!

Elaine, you look amazing. I am going to check to see if I have this colour and if I don’t I must get it. LOL. In any case, I understand how you feel. Ever since I was in high school, I was always conscious that people were staring at the mole on the side of my nose. I got over this in university and learned to embrace my unique feature as I call it. But somehow when i started blogging I was afraid of being judged too. But everyone has been so supportive. I also realized that people aren’t looking for our flaws — and if they are, they are the ones with the problem, not you 🙂

Aww, this post makes me sad! I’ve always told you – you always think its worse than it actually is, gorgeous girl! I still can’t believe that happened at work, but some people have no tact.

That colour is gorgeous against your skin, making me envious!

Oh no that’s horrible 🙁 ESPECIALLY as a teen! I remember having bad skin as a teen too. My parents were good about it but it was other relatives that kind of pointed it out but luckily I didn’t see them very often. Sorry you had to go through that – those things stay with you forever! Thanks for sharing your story with me 🙂 <3

That is a gorgeous color lip color! Definitely suits you! I’m glad you have friends who understands you! During my high school and college years, my face was always inflamed…the annoying part was my very own parents (who act like they never had pimples in their whole life and don’t know where I got my genes from) kept bringing it up during dinner and all family events…they made me feel as if there was something wrong with me, pointing at me like that in front of everyone…I mean I really really tried all I can to not have acne….but the acne just kept coming. Now I realized they were all due to hormones…and I can’t do anything about that unless I go on the pill…which wasn’t an option from my religious background…so arghh….I understand…people are so insensitive sometimes…and it stinks even more when those people are your own loving family members in my case…

I love that shade on you! As someone who sees you at events all the time to be honest I never ponder about your skin. Great pic!
