Avon Metallic Nail Polish

Posted on September 23, 2014May 18, 2015 by Sohnee

Every year the fall season is HUGE for beauty so you’ll be seeing many posts on fall trends and fall launches. Today, Sohnee shares with us the Avon Metallic Nail Polish line which is sure to be a hit this season.

What’s a big trend this fall? METALLICS! I mentioned in this previous fall collection post that Avon has come out with metallic finish cream eyeshadows as a part of their fall line up.

Well, they’ve done the same with their new nail polishes. Avon’s Metallic Effects Nail Enamel comes in five shades that deliver a mirror shine finish. I’m generally not a huge fan of ‘metallic’ anything related to cosmetics, but nail polishes have traditionally been a on the shiner side of things, so I can see myself incorporating this into my fall look.

The company claims that the polishes are chip resistant and apply evenly, without streaks. I got to try out three of their shades so you can see for yourself if they hold up to their claims:

pinky: Copper Gleam (2 coats); ring finger: Icy Purple (2 coats); middle finger: Copper Gleam (1 coat), index finger: Jade Reflection (1 coat); thumb: Icy Purple (1 coat)

I’m not the best at polish application, so I found out the hard way that with this formula, a little goes a long way; I used way too much the first time. You really don’t need much on the brush to cover the entire nail. They’re all pretty opaque, so you can get complete coverage with just one coat, too. However, I noticed that I could see the brushstrokes, so I tried a couple of them with two coats as well. I think that when nail polish is this shiny, it may be hard to avoid seeing streaks.

Icy Purple

Depending on the light source, this can look more silver than purple. It definitely looks pretty icy.

Jade Reflection

This was a bit of a mess since I loaded too much onto the brush, so I left it at just one coat. It’s a more prominent colour to contrast against my skin, so any imperfection is highlighted.

Copper Gleam

This reminds me of copper cookware, which was kind of fun. It looks like a metallic neutral on my skin.

The other two shades are Platinum Petal and Gold Leaf. I imagine those will be among the most popular shades of the season, but I’m pretty happy with my copper shade, as it’s more of a shiny neutral for me and will go well with nearly any outfit this autumn. I found that they were all very reflective, giving a nice foil effect with little effort.

Avon’s Metallic Effects Nail Enamels come in 12 mL bottles and are available for $6.99 through avon.ca or your local Avon independent sales representative.

Are you looking forward to metallics being a trend of 2014? How do you plan on incorporating a little extra shine into your fall?
