Beauty Round Up: Winter Skin

Posted on December 6, 2012 by Elaine

Even though it’s still officially fall the weather in December is definitely reminding us of Winter (except for the “heat wave” that Toronto had for a couple of days!). I don’t know about you but even though I have oily (and dehydrated skin) my skin starts to do strange things in the colder weather. Here is my winter skin round up for product that might work for you.

Beautysets - Winter Beauty Roundup
Winter Beauty Roundup
Face: Pure + Simple’s Cellular Face Repair cream not only provides much needed moisture but it helps to repair and protect the skin from Winter’s harsh elements. It goes on easily and absorbs nicely. There’s not much a scent to is and a little goes a long way. Another favorite of mine is the Eminence Organics Apricot Whip Moisturizer. If you don’t want to switch up your moisturizer because you love it so much you may want to consider layering under a serum for day and a facial oil at night.

Hands: Do you recall Ashley’s post on the Dot and Lil event at the Blush Pretty Studio? Well Dot and Lil has since become one of my favourite brands. My scent of choice is Satsuma. Just a tiny bit of the body butter works wonders for dry hands! I also really love the hand cream from Matter Company which I picked up at the One of a Kind Show for gifts.

Body: I admit that I neglect to moisturize my body on a regular basis. At this time of year the itchy skin on my legs and back remind me that I can’t forget this necessary step! I really like Weleda’s Sea Buckthorn body lotion, it’s lightweight and absorbs so fast which is perfect for getting ready quickly in the mornings. I of course also love the Shiso body butter from THANN and the passionfruit and ginger body butter from GRATiAE.

Hair: I ALWAYS forget about my hair! Hair can really take a beating in cold weather. It’s windier too so my already crazy curly hair gets even more tangled. I’m really loving the Marc Anthony line which uses Macadamia Oil and Bamboo to provide deep hydration and to help strengthen hair and repair damage. Not to mention it smells incredible! I also should really try a hair mask. I’m looking forward to trying this one out from the Redken Curvaceous line.

Eyes: Oh the eyes. I’m still not in the habit of using an eye cream but I know…I’m in my 30’s. I really SHOULD be using one daily! I have nothing against eye creams, they’re just an added step in my routine that I always forget about! I’m really loving the Wild Rose Instant Brightening Eye Treatment by Korres. It’s very lightweight and I do see results when I use this (you’d think I’d use it more, right?). The Eye Brightening Cream from Pure + Simple is also a great choice for those with sensitive skin.

Lips: The lips are probably the first indication for me that it’s time to switch up my products. To help prevent dry, cracked and chapped lips I’ve been turning to Pure + Simple’s Organic peppermint lip oil. I really like the hydration and the high shine it provides. Sometimes when I’m being extra diligent I’ll layer the Martina Gebhardt lip balm or the Dot and Lil shea rescue butter for lips and nails.

Hi Kathleen, thanks so much for the comment, that’s awesome you’re in Toronto too, yay!!! That is SUCH a good idea…I need to figure out my hair – which is why I take showers in the morning…my hair is curly so it’s ALWAYS a mess when I get up in the morning LOL!

    Hi Elaine!
I just found your blog, and am so happy that I have since you are a local beauty blogger here in Toronto (yay!) I love posts like this! I have been slacking on using eye cream, and I am noticing a difference in my under eye area. I am going to invest in a pretty good one, I really want a brightening formula, I’ll be sure to check out that Korres one. Another thing I find useful in the winter is switching my morning showers to evening showers. I know it isn’t the same, but slapping on some lotion and conditioning your hair, sleeping and then waking up with an extra half hour to spare, soft skin and yummy hair? Worth it!

I’ve been using coconut oil lately – fortunately in Atlanta, I don’t have to go to any extremes with winter skin products. 😉
