TESTING, TESTING: Vichy Aqualia Thermal Moisturizer

Posted on November 17, 2012March 30, 2020 by Elaine

I think I’ve found my new go-to brand! Vichy Laboratories puts so much science and research into their products to ensure that their products are simply the best in the industry. It truly shows in their products, and judging by the response I received to the Vichy BB cream giveaway, it’s a favourite amongst our readers!

Now, I am OBSESSED with moisturization. All year round, I am very anal and critical about the products that go on my face and the moisturization benefits they provide. As I’ve stated before, I routinely use night cream as day cream just because of the rich moisture qualities night cream provides. And anyone who ever stops by my desk at work, or in my room, can view the vast number of hand creams that adorn them both!

With the harsh winter months fast approaching, I was actually looking for a new moisturizer that could help combat the harsh winter effects. Luckily, I’ve found it!

Product: Vichy Aqualia Thermal Daily Care Moisturizer

Price: $35.00 (CAN)

Available: At all Canadian pharmacies and drugstores

What It Claims: “…will hydrate the skin with hyaluronic acid, protect it from dry winter air, keeps moisture in, strengthen the natural function of the skin…”

Review: I’ve traded in my daily use of night cream for this wonderful product. The cream is so rich, I don’t know if I can even properly describe it! It’s so thick and it applies like a dream – it’s so rich and plentiful, you won’t need a whole lot to drench your skin. That being said, the product itself isn’t heavy. It doesn’t sit on your skin, it absorbs instantly and smoothly.

The bottle is tinier than some of the other moisturizing jars, but I think it’s well worth the price. It stays on my skin, and it even lasted during some of Toronto’s windiest and coldest days so far! I only have to apply after showering and after cleansing my skin at the end of the day. It’s just as perfect as a night cream. Luckily enough, the product doesn’t cause any harsh reactions, it’s just as good for sensitive skin. Sometimes, the richness of moisturizers can cause breakouts, as they don’t allow the skin to breathe. Complete opposite here.

Verdict: I do adore it, but I can see the price being one of the major drawbacks of purchase. Sometimes it is easier to pick up the $7.99 Neutrogena cream, but I will restate that this cream is amazing! The benefits to this cream are amazing. And with a brand like Vichy, you can’t deny the quality.

Hmmm, I’ll have to take a look at this Baume then. I like my moisturization, especially in the winter months 🙂

Your skin sounds like it would be better suited to the Marcelle one (sorry, Vichy!). The Marcelle BB cream is just so flawless. It’s light, gives you the coverage you need, and it lets your skin breathe. It’s still my preference.

My skin can be really dry in the winter months too – I haven’t tried to the Aveno one you mentioned. My tried and true has always been the Neutrogena light night cream. I used it night and day, just because it was so moisturizing. The only issue – no sunscreen protection!

I have to agree, Ari. The Vichy products are kinda taming my skin at the moment. I don’t want to switch!

The mineral baume is great as a skin protectant and amazing during the winter months (the only time I use it). If you want to take it another step up from the Aqualia Thermal moisture-wise, the baume is a great alternative (thicker, but not sticky)

I’m still debating between marcelle and vichy. my skin is fairly clear with the occasional redness around the nose and some freckles on the cheeks. Which do you think would be better?

Another product I am using now is Avene high protection cream which is a mineral sunscreen. Moisturizing enough for me to wear it and nothing else (my skin is pretty dry so it is quite amazing I can go with just one product in the AM)!

Hi Kate! Yes, I remember you!

I really love this moisturizer – I slather it on day and night. I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything from Biotherm, but I seem to be having a weak spot for Vichy.

I haven’t tried their Mineral Baume yet – worth it?

I would say splurge and get the BB cream! I think you’d like it, and since a little goes a long way, you’ll have the bottle for a bit.

Thanks so much for commenting! Pass on any other products you enjoy, I think we think the same way.

Hi Ashley! I was the one that left a message for you earlier about Aqualia Thermal and I am so glad you did a post on it! I have been using this product for ages and I can’t live without it. My skin is dry and I have used Biotherm Aquasource in the past, but Vichy beats Biotherm on so many levels! Have you tried their Mineral Baume? It is amazing as well, especially if you are outdoors alot!
Big fan of Vichy… kind of sad I wasn’t able to try the BB cream from the giveaway 🙁 but I am contemplating on buying it anyway!!
