Style News: Gap x GQ Men’s Collection

Posted on September 25, 2012 by Elaine

Yup I know – menswear isn’t normally the type of story I write about but I got wind of a new Gap Men’s Collection featuring GQ’s six Best New Menswear Designers in America for 2012. This limited edition collection will include one-of-a-kind pieces ranging from accessories to outerwear – each piece showcasing each rising designer’s signature spin on iconic menswear pieces.

The collection is pretty affordable too with essentials like boxer briefs starting at $20 (although I find this pricey for underwear!) all the way up to $348 for a leather bomber jacket (this I can understand).

The collection will be available at select Gap stores world wide on September 27th, 2012.

The six designers and the pieces from their exclusive capsule collections will be featured in a special 14-page ad insert in the October issue of GQ.

Here’s a look at the designers and their pieces:

GQ 1
Johan Lindeberg’s BLK DNM celebrates the new uniform of the way-downtown set, where black jeans share sartorial space with tuxedo jackets and leather bombers.
GQ 3
Todd Snyder’s designs reside at the intersection of rugged and refined. He makes clothes for the man who wears a jacket and tie because he wants to.
GQ 4
Ian Velardi who fuses active sportswear with classic tailoring techniques to form his signature uptown-meets-downtown aesthetic.
GQ 5
Saturdays NYC, founded by Morgan Collett, Josh Rosen, and Colin Tunstall, brings surf style to urban dwellers with designs equally suited for sandy beaches and concrete sidewalks.
GQ 6
Mark McNairy New Amsterdam turns classic American sportswear on its ear. Military, workwear and athletic influences mesh in his rebellious and playful collections.
GQ 7
Twin brothers Ariel and Shimon Ovadia, of Ovadia & Sons, bring fresh eyes to old-world tailoring by updating classic menswear items with unexpected details and pops of color.

My husband definitely loves shopping at the Gap although his height can make shopping frustrating (he’s got the opposite problem that I have standing at 6’5″!) but I’m interested to see which pieces (if any) of this collection catch his eye. Will you be checking it out?

You can follow the conversation about this collection on twitter. Just search the hashtag #GQxGAP.

I’m pretty excited too! Not sure if the husband will actually like anything but I can have fun trying to convince him 😉
