Just Like In High School

Posted on January 13, 2012 by Elaine

Hmmm…perhaps not high school but maybe elementary school – I’m talking about wearing glasses! I have TERRIBLE vision.  I’ve had glasses since grade 5 but when I was old enough I jumped at the chance to wear contacts.  Well I’m back to wearing glasses for now – I’m hoping to get laser eye surgery.  A few years ago I went for an assessment and I was a perfect candidate except for my dry eyes.  I was given over the counter drops and when I got reassessed – 1 day before my scheduled surgery –  I was told that my eyes were still too dry and it was unsafe for me to have the surgery at that time.  I was seriously crushed.  I was so excited and so ready to have “perfect vision” it didn’t even occur to me that it might not happen! Fast forward to today and I’m going to get reassessed soon. There are prescription drops that are available so if my dry eyes are still an issue hopefully they will resolve the problem.  But I’m not getting my hopes up this time.

Anyway, the reason for this story is that my next few outfit posts will be with me wearing glasses.  I’m not comfortable in my glasses, they make me feel all awkward like I’m in high school 😛  So bear with me through the awkwardness and cross your fingers for me that I can have the surgery!

I love this blazer, it’s perfect for the colder weather and it’s a little bit masculine so I paired it with really girly pieces that I usually wear on their own.
The Banana Republic Factory stores near me don’t carry any petite sizes so I was pleasantly surprised at the fit of this one.  It’s slightly big on me, but not noticeable so if you’re smaller than me you might be swimming around in this one.
Unfortunately I bought this back in the Summer but only wore it recently as the weather has been pretty warm lately!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Sorry to hear you’re not a good candidate for laser eye. Honestly (HONESTLY) I think the glasses suit you!! But I know that doesn’t count for much when you don’t feel like yourself. My fingers are crossed for you. My sister would sympathize. She has a really strong prescription, but her body doesn’t produce tears…none. So she can’t even wear contacts for more than an hour or two at a time. Love the cut of the blazer and olive colour. BR’s stuff is so classic, you can rarely go wrong 🙂

OMG S, yes same story! So it IS Restasis that they wanted to give me but it wasn’t approved in Canada. Not sure if it is now but I was told they could get it in for me as “samples” and hopefully see if it works!

Hahaha! Yeah, I hate driving with my glasses on, I am so paranoid and check my blind spot a few times b/c I’m worried my eyes are playing tricks on me!

You look good in glasses! Reading about your experience is like reading about my life. Got glasses in 5th grade, wore contacts mostly up until a few years ago but then dry eye got the best of me. Was told to use Restasis drops but couldn’t because I was breastfeeding (and then got pregnant again and then breastfeeding again lol). Hope your assessment goes well!

I really hope you can get the procedure this time! My boyfriend had PDK surgery a few years ago and it was one of the best things he ever did. *fingers crossed*

I have been wearing glasses since Kindergarten 🙂 Never gotten contacts. Too scared to have them stuck in your eye balls. ;0
Glasses are in fashion. I have seen people wear glasses even if they dont need it. LOL You look good in glasses. I personally think everyone looks good in glasses so everyone should wear one 🙂

I’m exactly the same with you~ wearing glasses just before I go to sleep! I can’t stand them and I just don’t like seeing something around my eyes and you have to totally move your whole head for peripheral vision! Hope you get to have your laser! Ps You totally rock glasses anyway 🙂

I wear glasses too Elaine! I have trouble with contacts as it’s so dry in Alberta that it makes them so uncomfortable. You look really cute as always! Good luck on your reassessment. I have dry eyes too, so I doubt I’d be a good candidate. My friend had it done and she LOVES not wearing glasses anymore.

LOL! I love glasses on other people for some reason I just don’t feel like ‘me’ in them. And it’s funny b/c I usually only wear them right before bed so I associate them with being sleepy LOL!

Elaine, I also have terrible vision and hate wearing my glasses (something to do with those red round wire frames when I was 5…) But glasses are sexy now! And your frames look awesome. The change in look is nice, my husband and coworkers think I’ve put extra effort in when I wear my glasses now 🙂

Elaine, I have had bad vision since I was in middle school and since I am too much of a freak to know how to deal with contacts, I always wear glasses when I have to drive. You look good in them and not awkward at all. 🙂

Love the colors of your outfit and the layers!

No need to feel self-conscious, you look great in glasses! One of my friends got laser eye surgery and said it was the best thing she ever did, but I am still too scared to do it. Let us know how it goes!
