Top Box – Another Beauty Box is in town

Posted on November 16, 2011 by Elaine

So there is Luxe Box and Glymm box and now there is Top Box! As you may have guessed, Top Box is a subscription based service which delivers 4 deluxe beauty samples to members each month.  Ok, so now what makes them different? Top Box says they are committed to proving only “top” brands and this sets them apart.  “Top” brands is always subjective, so let’s see what the November Top Box looked like and you can check out the brands offered in the October Top Box here.

Here is the pretty “box” – not really a box obviously but a tube!

Here’s what was inside, from L – R:
Cake Velveteen Hand Creme, Deborah Lippman “Some Enchanted Evening” Nail lacquer, Dr Brandt Time Arrest Eye Serum, Stila Lip Glaze

Here’s the information sheet that came with the box.  I love reading about the brands that I receive.
I was most excited about the full sized nail polish.  This Deborah Lippman one looks so gorgeous and perfect for the holidays!  I’ve never tried Stila lip glosses so I’m looking forward to trying that out too. I’ll give the eye serum a test run although I usually don’t see a difference with most eye creams or serums I try.  The full sized cream was a nice surprise too, but I’m admittedly not a huge Cake fan.  I like the smells of their products I just usually don’t enjoy my hands and skin smelling like sugar and desserts LOL!

And here’s a pleasant surprise – a “coupon” to receive 8000 Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum points with a purchase of a full size Stila product!
Something else that makes Top Box a bit different from the Luxe Box and the Glymm Box that I noticed was the subscription process.  You pay $10 plus applicable taxes but you don’t have to purchase a monthly or a yearly subscription at once.  When you sign up to receive your Top Box your subscription is automatically renewed each month and you can cancel at anytime (just be sure to cancel before the 10th of each month or your Top Box will already be shipped out to you).
Another feature on the Top Box site that I found interesting was their statement about “reducing, reusing and recycling“.  They cylinder sent above came wrapped in Kraft paper and not in another box.  They purposely chose to not include a logo onto the box so that the consumer could reuse the box by perhaps using it to enclose a gift for someone else in.  Their packaging is also 100% recyclable.
I love the idea of these boxes and it seems a new one comes out every few months hoping to top their competitors. I like that there is choice out there for the consumer – nothing wrong with a little competition right?
So what do you think of Top Box, the latest player in the world of beauty sample subscriptions?

Thanks for replying Caroline! Yes I’ve heard of Birch Box. I assume Top Box will be in direct competition if they do become available in the US.

Wow! I read this review and immediately looked up the company to see if they deliver to the US. Now I am so sad!:-( It looks like the beautiful women of Canada are the only ones who get to sign-up.
I love the eco-friendly approach, the full-size products includes and the diversity of the products! Great review Elaine!

These are full size samples and great brands too. I love everything that is in this box. Out of all that subscription boxes out there, this one has the best products. I am going to check out October box and if the products are equally good, I may just have to consider signing up. I wonder if it’s too late to get the November box?

I know there are so many out there to choose from! Do some research on what others have been getting in each of their boxes and see which ones seem to appeal to you the most.

The Top Box will cost $10 plus taxes. I think it’s worth it to be able to try out different brands that you normally wouldn’t pick up or have heard about. I don’t know if any of these boxes is worth it for me personally since I have a ton of beauty products already and get the occasional sample to review but I’m actually thinking that something like this would make a great gift for a closte friend or loved one! make

Ahhh the million dollar question! I have to say I was most excited about the products from the Top Box. I would be able to make the most use out of them.

Hmmm I think I like this box out of all the ones youve mentioned. So what exactly does it cost you? is it worth it? and I do like the bonus of shoppers optimum points 🙂 really does it come to 10 dollars a month?

I signed up for Top Box yesterday and am interested in how it compares to Lux Box and Glymm. 3 sample subscriptions seems a bit much so I’ll be giving up one of them eventually.
