Pleats and Navy – These are a few of my favorite things

Posted on October 9, 2011 by Elaine
***Note:  I’m away on vacation so this is a scheduled post!
I may not be able to respond to comments as quickly as I’d like to!***

I’m a true “girly girl” and have always had a thing for pleats.  I’ve also always been drawn to grey.  Is is sad that essentially it’s my favorite colour?  It’s by no means a reflection of my mood 😛 But lately I’ve been gravitating towards navy.

I loved this pleated skirt as soon as I laid eyes on it and it fit me perfectly too!  The ONLY issue was the zipper.

Skirt: H&M size 2
See the zipper?  I was so disappointed that it was so wonky.
For more pictures of the skirt see my review over at FitReview
I contemplated returning it since I wasn’t sure it was worth paying a tailor to fix it. But…I have a fabulous mother in law who was able to change out the zipper for me so I was able to keep it and it’s now one of my favorite skirts!!

No more exposed zipper

Bumpy zipper is gone!

Belt: Danier XS
Shoes: Nine West size 7

Blazer: H&M size 2
I’m so happy I didn’t return this skirt and that my mother in law was able to help me keep it!

Yes she completely replaced the zipper! I know, I’m really lucky to have a great MIL (I’ve heard some horror stories LOL!)

Thank goodness I have someone in the family that can sew! My mom can sew too but MIL wanted a project and to practice her sewing skills 😉

Oh too bad it didn’t drape well – maybe try another skirt? Since it’s H&M I’m sure all the skirts are inconsistent!

Your MIL is such a darling to have helped you to save this skirt. I agree that the exposed zipper looks really out of place on what is supposed to be an elegant dress. I’m so glad you managed to save it with your MIL’s help.

I’ve got a long ruched and gathered dress that makes me look short and I brought it to my tailor’s to get it shortened. Now it’s a va va voom ruched dress with asymmetrical hemline that goes above the knee.

I remember this skirt! I’m so glad your MIL came to the rescue. The after without the exposed zipper really transformed the skirt into one classic looking piece. Such a pretty outfit, Elaine!

I love it! Lucky you, having a crafty MIL! I have saved so many pieces of clothing myself can’t think of an example at the moment, but I’ve been pretty crafty myself.

Wow – love how the skirt turned out. I also bought this same skirt from H&M and although the zipper wasn’t the problem I just didn’t like how the skirt draped on me. It looks awesome on you though. Glad it worked out for the one of us! Thanks for sharing.

Mother-in-law did a fantastic job! The skirt looks so much chicer and more expensive without the exposed zipper. It’s amazing what a little tweak can do sometimes. 😉
