Let’s Talk Body Oils

Posted on August 25, 2011November 23, 2014 by Elaine

I’m a huge fan of body oils. You need to replace the natural oils in your body after stripping your skin of them after a shower – I’m doing my skin such a favor by using a body oil alone right after a shower or layering it under a light moisturizer.  Not only do body oils moisturize but I love how they smell too.  I love wearing perfumes but sometimes I prefer the light scent of body oils on a daily basis.

Here are the ones I’ve been rotating all summer long:

IMG_3685
Avon Skin So Soft Bath Oil (US link here)
Ahhh an Avon classic.  If your moms or grandmothers were Avon shoppers you’ll know about this stuff.  I LOVE it.  It’s also known as a nice smelling mosquito repellent – I can’t vouch for that personally but many of my friends and family do!  While this is meant to be bath oil – a cap full in a tub of water, I use it as a body oil.  And this stuff smells AMAZING!  It’s fresh and clean and slightly perfumy, but definitely not overwhelming.  I always get the “oooh you smell so good” when I have this on.
IMG_2127
Nuxe Huile Proigieuse purchased from Beautiphica

I was first introduced to this stuff from Arianne of The Glitter Geek who is another body oil hoard.  She said it smells like summer and I’d have to agree!  This stuff is nice and light in texture and has a wonderful subtle scent about it.  You just feel like you came from a spa massage that uses luxury body oils.  I love this stuff! When I use it I’m constantly smelling my arm all day – I’m sure I get weird looks LOL!  There is a “golden shimmer” version that I’m itching to try out next time! While this would have been perfect for summer I think it will be great for Fall/Winter too, it will give me a bit of colour during my extra pasty months.

IMG_3565
Weleda Sea Buckthorn Oil

Sea Buckthorn is one of those ingredients that I’m starting to see everywhere.  From what I’ve read Sea Buckthorn oil has been used as a treatment for certain conditions including skin conditions such as rosacea and acne.  While I’m hesitant to try this stuff out on my face I love it on my body.  It’s a bit thicker than the other body oils I have tried but it absorbs into the skin beautifully.  It has an orange tinge to it but it doesn’t leave my skin looking orange, just “warmed up”.  And it has a lovely citrus/orange scent to it!

IMG_3971
Mangosteen Pericarp Oil
This Mangosteen Pericap Oil is meant to be used on the face or mixed into a moisturizer but it can be used all over the body as well.  There is no scent to this one (so this might be appealing to some that have a favorite lotion or perfume they where daily) and I found it difficult to get out of the bottle – but I’m thinking it’s because you would only use a few drops for the face.  Since it takes longer to get this stuff out of the bottle, I used this one when I had some extra time on my hands.  I have also mixed it with a body lotion just to add some extra moisturizing factor as most lotions contain a lot of water.
So, there you have it – the oils that I have been using all summer.  I change it up often and go with what mood I’m in.  I do have to say though the Avon and the Nuxe have been on heavy rotation!  I’d like to research a bit more about the extra benefits of Sea Buckthorn Oil especially before I try it out on my face!
Are you a fan of body oils?  If you’ve tried any oils on your face to help with acne or scarring I would LOVE to hear about them!

Oooo this is interesting! I’ve never used a bath oil..just lotion but I may have to give this a try! I usually have not used this because I hate the ‘greasy’ feeling but maybe the formulas have changed and not the case anymore!

I don’t even think I was ever introduced to body oil. I’m intrigued! But do they leave skin feeling oily at all? that’s seems to be my problem with any moisturizers…

I have never used a body oil but I love taking long soapy baths so I think this is a great idea for keeping skin smooth! Have a fabulous weekend Elaine!

@aki! You should try it out! Well they ARE oily so it takes a bit of getting used to but really good body oils will absorb into your skin nicely. Why not start off my mixing a bit of oil into your favorite lotion first?

@Make Mommy Chic Sharon I love the Nuxe stuff! You can pick it up at some Shoppers and at Murale too!

@Louise @ cosmetic bee No I haven’t tried Argan oil before! That’s another kind of “buzz word” that keeps coming up. Might have to put that one on the list too 😉

@Style Journey Me too Heather! Guess that’s why I’m still a rep LOL! I love trying out new products but I will always have my Avon favorites 😉

@Really Petite Ahh it’s been a crazy week Annie, I have a lot of posts that still need to be written too 🙁 So behind! I answered you on twitter already – I’ve only tried the clarisonic classic!

@Arianne Answered you on twitter too, the Avon one does come with a spray bottle! But it’s a smaller version than the one in the picture.

@EveryDay Makeup blog Isn’t it the best? Why are you no longer a rep?

@A Fine Balance Oh I heard really great things about Bio Oil, but I haven’t tried it yet – I’m always skeptical about stuff that says it gets rid of scars and stretch marks too – but I’m sure it’s not making them any worse!

@newpetite interesting concoction! Where do you get the almond oil from?

Great post! I’m intrigued by the Mangosteen oil. Have you tried Argan oil? I’ve been hearing quite a lot about it but haven’t had time to look it up. I have tried Nuxe Huile Seche before and thought it was quite nice.

I’ve heard that the Nuxe one is supposed to be really good- must be if you’re giving it a thumbs up! Now that the weather’s getting cooler, it means that skin will start getting drier- i’ll need to put a body oil on my shopping list! Thanks for the post Elaine- have a great weekend!

I haven’t really heard about this. On one hand, I love scents and I do need more moisture. But on the other, the word oil sounds like it’ll be so oily.

I honestly love ti because it has no smell really so if my cream or body butter is scented they dont mix!

Getting to play with the re-release of @lancomeofficial #JuicyTubes has been such a fun throwback! ✨ I remember thinking they were the ultimate ~Cool Girl~ makeup product when they first came out and reading about them as a beauty must-have in every magazine (J14 anyone?! 😂) They were basically the “grown up” version of Lip Smackers!

Gotta say, applying one of their trademark frosted, shiny shades now is making 12 year old me *very* happy.
