Review: Avon Caribbean Sunset and Vibrant Spice Quads

Posted on August 7, 2011March 30, 2020 by Elaine

Avon has come out with two new eyeshadow quads called Caribbean Sunset and Vibrant Spice (and here for US readers).

First let’s take a look at the Caribbean Sunset Quad:

I really love the shades in this one.  The browns and corals remind me of the beach and yes the colours of the sunset while the turquoise reminds me of the water.  I was surprised at how deep the turquoise was compared to the color in the pan.
Here’s a quick look that I did using the radiant orange and the deep turquoise:

I took the orange shade pretty much all over my lid up to the crease then I took the turquoise shade just at the  outer edge of my eyes and up into the crease.  Then I blended it all with a fluffy brush.  You can kind of see that the darker colour doesn’t look turquoise, I think when mixed with the orange it turns more “muddy” and looks closer to a grey/black shade.  I’ll have to try this out in another way next time.

Next let’s look at the Vibrant Spice Quad.

The colours in this palette are so pretty! True to the name these colours ARE really vibrant.

This time I decided to use all four eyeshadow according to the back of the compact and see how it would look.

Gold Sand was applied under my brow bones, Lush Lavender was applied on the inner half of my lids.  Shimmering Copper was applied in my crease and Caramelized Plum was applied on the outer corner of my lid.  Here is the final look.

I’m not really feeling the Gold Sand under my brow bones, I think it’s way too yellow.  This is something I would probably apply to the very inner corners of my eyes where the tear ducts are.  Or I will just use it on the base of my lids to add a bit of shimmer and dimension.
Overall I like these quads.  They are a bit different from the other Avon Quads as they combine colours that you wouldn’t necessary think to wear together.  Most of Avon’s other Quads are all in the same colour family.  I think using all 4 of the colours is a bit much for me.  Unless one of my make up artist friends can give me some tips!
For the eyeliner in both looks I used mark by Avon “no place to run eyeliner” in jet set.

This is one of my favorite eyeliners, it blends so nicely but when you let it set it doesn’t budge all day.  Perfect for humid summer weather!
What do you think of these Quads, has anyone else tried these out before?

I have been toying with the idea of buying some Avon make-up lately, but have yet to do so. I love the colours in both those quads, but it looks like they don’t go on near as bold as they look, or at least as blod as I want them to…

The Carib Sunset look great on you – subtle smoky eye that brings out the colour of your eyes. Haven’t tried this eyeliner but I have been using on-the-edge for a few years now because it stays put. Glimmersticks seem to disappear on my oily lids after an hour. For the price, I haven’t found a better one yet. Thanks for the review.

I’ve never bought Avon cosmetics but these colours are beautiful! I think the colours really highlight your eyes! BTW…thank you for your suggestion on the lipstick, I did try a brighter pink and I didn’t feel so washed out this time around!

I love Avon! I was just actually picking out items in the book to order. I like the red 2000 lipstick and a quad with blue and cream colors, can’t remember the name now.

I am also a fan of their jewelry too.

    Gorgeous colors! Thanks for sharing!

I agree with you on the yellow under the brows! Yellow is a difficult shade to master without looking sickly! Lol!
