Smokey eye look with NYX Nude on Nude Palette

Posted on July 24, 2011December 14, 2014 by Elaine

I did this look a while ago but was trying to figure out how to best described how I achieved this look!  I follow a lot of beauty bloggers and I KNOW I will not do this justice, but I will try my best 🙂

Since the NYX Nude on Nude palette does not have any colour names I will have to just point them through pictures.

I took the product pictures from my previous post on this palette.

IMG_2115All over my eye including under my brow bone I took a fluffy brush and used the lightest shade (bottom row most left shade).
The next colour I used was the 6th shade from the bottom, a greyish shade.  I took a flat eye shadow brush and patted this colour on to the base of my lids starting from the middle of my lids and patting up to my crease.
The third shade I used was the darkest shade of the palette – the black shade on the top row the most right shade.  I used the same flat brush but only dipped the point of this brush into the black shade.  I applied this along my lash line just concentrating on the corner of the lid and I also applied this colour right into my crease.

I hope I explained that clearly!!

I lined my eyes on my top lid only with mark no place to run longwear eyeliner in Jet Set (here and here).

mark longwear liner - jet set

I then took an angled brush and smudged it out a bit so the line wasn’t super harsh and I used the product that was now on the brush to line my bottom lash line.

I haven’t figured out how to properly line my waterline.  The colour just doesn’t see to stay put there – if any of my make up artist friends or make up experts have any tips for me, please share!

I curled my lashes then added mascara.

And here’s the overall look:

haha, sorry I’m not all glammed up I just wanted to show what the eyes looked like from a normal distance.  It’s actually not too dramatic and very wearable!

For swatches please refer to this post.

Please let me know what you think and if you have any tips for me.  I did a couple other looks which I will post at a later date but if you have any requests I’ll try some looks out 🙂

~~~~~~~~~~Edit~~~~~~~~~~
I wanted to add as per one of the comments the brushes that I used.  I really do believe in getting the right tools and brushes for makeup however I know that brushes can also be really expensive even though they are considered an investment.  On a tip from my make up artist friend Stephanie of BlushPretty I picked up this brushes from Eco Tools.  I got these ones at Target while in the US but Walmart carries them too in Canada!
From top to bottom:
Flat eye shadow brush, angled brush, fluffy brush (this on is actually a travel sized one so it has a shorter handle).
    @Really Petite I actually usually wear browns to work, just easier to throw on when I’m in a rush in the mornings 😉
    @B.Inspired Heee thanks for your comments – we’ve already emailed each other about this one, but yes I have to practice still with the lashes. So difficult!
    @Tinfoils Tiaras Not much of a tutorial, so many other ladies out there who are great at that, but I’m glad if I helped you out even just a little bit 🙂
    @Sweet Laundry Thanks! I used to be scared that smokey eyes wouldn’t be wearable but I guess it’s just how intense you apply the shadows 😉
    @Kat Thanks Kat! 🙂
    @Canadianpetite Thanks! I picked up the NYX palette from one of Nelah’s blog sales 🙂
    I really like this, especially because you’re right, in that it’s not too over the top and very wearable. I used to put the smokey shadow all over my eyelid but I like how you have started on the outside moving towards the inside where it’s a bit faded. I’ll have to try this technique. Thanks – this was very helpful!!
    I really like this look you’ve created with the eyeshadow palette! From a distance it looks natural and not overdone! Just discovered your blog and I am going to see if you’ve done a post on applying false eyelashes! Just had that done this weekend at a professional headshot and Smashbox makeover event!
    @The Procrastinator YES I did use a primer – I always do especially in the summer. I should make a note of that!
    @questforfashionsense Sure I’ll add a picture of the brushes for you – thanks for the idea! I actually used Eco Tools brushes. Super soft AND affordable!
    Very pretty and natural looking! Could you also include a picture of the eyeshadow brushes that you use? I’m looking to get a new eyeshadow brush, but not sure which kind/size to get. I have some Sonia Kashuk brushes from a set and one flat brush from Urban Decay. Any suggestions for other eyeshadow brushes?
