Blo Blow Dry Bar opens at BayView Village!

Posted on July 2, 2011 by Elaine

Last weekend the newest Blo Blow Dry Bar location opened up in Bayview Village and I was there for the opening weekend celebrations!

You won’t find scissors or dye at the Blo Blow Dry Bar – so when you visit this cool and posh salon you’re technically NOT cheating on your hair dresser!

Opening up its first location in Vancouver in 2007 this fast growing franchise is now all over Toronto and boasts several locations in the US – 2 opening soon in Miami Florida.

Another “before” picture – we were joined by Van Anh Nguyen

The yummy white chocolate strawberry filled truffles – to die for!

IMG_2936
cupcakes – silly me forgot to sample these!!

IMG_2943
Cotton Candy was being served too! (I did get some, and I ate it…and forgot to take a picture…oops)

The salon at Bayview Village is so girly and sleek – I feel like I’m walking into my own movie star dressing room.  In fact, if I ever get blessed with my own dressing room, this is how I’d want it to look like.

I even love the front desk area!  Check out that light fixture! I wonder if I could convince my husband to decorate our room like this….

A line up of the products used at the blo dry bar:

Isn’t this awesome, a hair menu!!!  GENIUS!

Check out the services they offer here

My stylist Cristina asked what I had in mind – I told her to be creative – I totally trusted her 🙂

IMG_2939

She said she was going to give me a cross between the “red carpet” and the “holly would”

More of Cristina working her magic (I had a whole bunch of those brushes in my hair at one point – if I tried this myself I think I’d end up cutting all my hair off!)

IMG_2940

While Cristina was doing her thing I was having a great chat with Navaz who owns the Bayview Village location with his wife Sharmina.  I am in awe of this husband wife team who also run the Vaughan location, other business ventures AND have 3 kids…ummm…seriously?!?  It was such a blast talking to Navaz who is definitely a proud owner and has such great respect for his team.

Some fun facts about Blo:

  • Just $35 dollar for a blo out – all hair types and lengths!!
  • All Bloers (Session Stylists) must attend Blo U (university) where they learn to perfect all the styles offered.
  • You can get your blo on the go (BOTG) and the Blo team will come to your work or home
  • They recently worked the MMVA’s
  • Guys can get in on the action too with a “Blo Bro”

I know I’m TOTALLY loving this service.  Being a curly haired girl it takes WORK to get swingy, bouncy hair or sleek straight hair so to get pampered for about 30 minutes and leave like I’m ready for the red pink carpet, this is definitely meant for me!

…..ready for the final result?……

IMG_2941
Gah look how bouncy my hair is!!!!
IMG_2942
Cristina and me striking a pose

I couldn’t stop shaking my hair around and I will need to find out exactly which products were used on me because my hair was still great the next day and even the day after (ack I know, I went 2 days without washing my hair – it still looked great – don’t judge 😛 )

Another person who I really have to thank is Hillary.  She was kind enough to extend the invite to me and we had been emailing each other back and forth.  We didn’t get to speak with each other for very long since she was super busy making sure everything was going smoothly but I managed to get her and Navaz to take a (blurry) picture with me:

Thank you so much to Hilary, Navaz, Cristina and the entire Blo team at Bayview Village! Check out the Blo Blow Dry Bar at their website, on twitter and on their facebook page.

They may need a staff meeting on how to treat customers! lol. I won’t be going back, way too uncomfortable for me 🙁 I am moving soon and there is one in my new neighborhood… hopefully the staff there want to make customers comfortable and happy! 🙂

Oh no!!! I’m so sorry you had a bad experience there 🙁 Perhaps email the management. I’ll see if I can contact them too. The owners seemed really passionate about the business and their employees so I’m sure they will want to improve and not let this happen again. But that’s for letting me know!!

I went there on a friday evening for a 5:30 appointment. They close at 6. I was on time… So I ask for waves and a french braid through my bangs… I felt like these girls just wanted to get out of there. It made me feel as though I was keeping them! two of them had blow dryers to my head (one burning me) and the blonde says to the brunette, “I can’t wait to be done so we can go shopping!” Ohhh k. Then it comes to doing the braid and the blonde can’t do it!! She announces to the other 2 girls and the receptionist, “I cant do these braids! Do you guys know how?” They all answer, “No.” Then a brunnette decides to give it a try. She completes the braid which has this big lump sticking out of it and just left it on my head like that! As she is doing this the receptionist is standing at the cash with her jacket and purse on asking the other girl to get me to pay… As I am getting my service done!! wow rude. They were soooooo unprofessional. I could not believe this. I was really excited about this place. What a HUGE let down. I do not recommend going to this location. Perhaps stronger management and training is needed. What an uncomfortable experience… If I wasn’t made to feel like an inconvience… and they did the braid nicely I probably would have gone there a couple times a month to treat myself!

Oh, I have always wanted to try a blo dry bar. There are 3 right near my house! It’s so hard to re-create the blow dry job my hair dresser does! They did a great job, your hair looks so thick and voluminous!

I haven’t been to Bayview Village in a while. I’m curious what they took over. Are there THREE hair places now, or did the one across from the LCBO shut down?

SO COOL. I actually like both the before and the after shots; your hair has so much bounce in the after shot and I like the curls. Your necklace in the before shot is also very eye catching.

I like the Brook Hagel illustrations and the names of the blowouts are so witty. I think I would try either the Executive Sweet or Hugs, Sex, and Rock & Roll. Hopefully, a BLO location will open up near me!
