H&M Pencil Skirt

Posted on January 3, 2011December 21, 2014 by Elaine

I didn’t do too much shopping over the holidays – I think I wasn’t really looking for anything in particular and I didn’t feel like fighting the boxing day / week crowds.

I did manage to pick up this skirt from H&M though; I had been looking for a grey pencil skirt for a while.  I think grey just goes with more items in my wardrobe.  It’s not as harsh as black and much easier to work with than brown in my opinion.

Since my work environment is really casual I thought about how I would dress it down a bit and so I paired this skirt with some really casual pieces.

Skirt:  H&M size 4
Top:  Old Navy XS
Cardigan:  Gap XS seen in this post  (yes I’m wearing it AGAIN!)

The top I’m wearing is essentially like long john material 😛  It’s such a comfy shirt I feel like I could sleep in it.  Here is what it looks like with the cardigan undone.

I took the belt off that came with it since I had planned on keeping the cardigan closed the whole time anyway.  Here is a close up of the pattern of the skirt.

Overall I really like this skirt.  It’s fully lined and I think the quality is really good especially for H&M.  I didn’t get this skirt on sale, I paid $39.95 Canadian.  But I have been searching for a grey skirt for a while now.  The fit of the skirt reminds me of another H&M skirt I have – the black lace one that many other petite bloggers have.   I have worn the lace skirt several times already and have yet to take a picture!

My one pet peeve with this skirt that I noticed throughout the day that the lining kept peaking through when I sat down and sometimes when I stood up if I didn’t readjust the skirt.  I wonder if hemming just the lining a smidge would help at all.  Thoughts?

And I wore my Christmas present from my husband – my single Tahitian pearl necklace 😀  <3

Has anyone else seen this skirt at H&M?  I saw it in black and an orangy red colour as well.  I think the size 2 would fit a lot smaller petites well.

Wow I’m jealous! Your husband has great taste haha… mine never buys me jewelry because he doesn’t want to try at all just in case I don’t like it. I really like the mix of prints/textures in your outfit. And did I mention I love the mustard cardigan?? 🙂

I tried on the same skirt a few months ago. It’s so gorgeous but I wanted it to be a bit longer (looked even shorter on me), so I had to pass. It looks fab on you!

This is a great shirt for H&M. I like how you mixed and matched with different patterns. Sadly, pencil skirts from H&M don’t fit me right, but if they did I would snatch this one up. I LOVE H&M!

I haven’t seen that skirt in H&M in my area…bummer. But it looks great on you! Love the monochromatic look with the touch of mustard yellow.

I think this looks fabulous! I’m not a fan of brown, personally. So I think gray was a good choice. I especially love the polka-dots! I’m also don’t like polka dots but I do like the subtle pattern you have here.

@Viv thank you for the compliment 🙂

@Cee actually no hint dropping at all!!! I guess he figures you can’t go wrong with pearls 😛

@TLDP – yes I can see a bit of purple in it now that you mention it!

@Elle I think this skirt would look so good on you, I hope you find one!

@Kileen – I will try the belt over a cardi next time I wear it – nice to have options 🙂

@Ping – can’t wait to see it on you, you will definitely look amazing 🙂

@Megz – Fashion Tape!! Good call, I’ve never used it before but it just may do the trick!

@TheGirlieBlog – I thought it was pretty versatile for my wardrobe too 🙂

@AN what colours do you mostly have in your closet? I mostly have shades of grey so this fits in well 😛

@Vicky I guess this skirt will be my LOFT dupe LOL!

I bought that skirt a while ago in a size 2 (great petite fit!) but couldn’t match it to much in my closet so I returned it. It was during that return trip that I found the famous lace skirt!

Hubby did a great job! Loooove your necklace! =)

The skirt is gorgeous! Both the patterns and color are lovely and sophisticated. Plus, you can wear it with anything. I say it’s a good buy.

lovely skirt and i like the little subtle dot pattern! i think it looks great with the cardigan but think a belt might help in defining the waist a bit more. otherwise the long cardigan has a tendency to just look like a straight line as it goes down, whereas a belt would really flatter your petite figure!

and what a beautiful pearl necklace!! your husband has good taste in jewelry! 🙂

I haven’t seen that in stores yet! (maybe I just wasn’t paying attention) but it’s so cute! The lining thing is a hassle definitely…unfortunately I am not helpful in that department either.

Your husband is so sweet, that necklace is darling!

Wow I thought that was mauve, from the first photo. And the other photos make the skirt look beige to me. LOL Very cute though. : ) And the “long john material” is called thermal 😀

Sorry, I’m no help with the lining peeking through. But I really like the skirt on you. The print is fun and could be dressed up or down. Love how you paired a yellow cardi on top.

Kudos to your husband for the Tahitian pearl necklace. It’s gorgeous! Did he pick it out himself or were there lots of hint dropping? 😉
