Petite Fashion Challenge #2

Posted on September 30, 2010December 21, 2014 by Elaine

After completing my first Petite Fashion Challenge I was excited to hear about Petite Fashion Challenge #2  hosted by Alterations Needed.

But then I kind of started panicking because September was filled with personal highs (friend’s wedding!) and personal lows (2 funerals 🙁  )  and the rest of what makes life so hectic all in between.  I had pictured in my mind to turn a Summer Dress into an appropriate Fall outfit which seemed easy in theory but turned out to be quite a challenge!

Here is the dress I picked:

Dress:  RW&Co size 00
Here’s my spring/summer look:
Wedge Sandals:  Avon

This is a dress I ususally only wear on vacation because it’s quite low cut.  Sometimes I would wear this over my bikini if we were walking around town.

So here is how I changed it to wear for Fall/Winter:

Short Sleeved Turtle Neck:  Joe Fresh
Cardigan:  Loft XSP
Boots:  Nine West
Tights and Belt:  Winners
Necklace:  Avon

I didn’t want to just throw a cardigan over it and say “yay this is Fall” I wanted to really show the layering.  I put the turtle neck underneath for a bit more modesty and to make this work friendly but buttoned the 3rd button of the cardigan up so the neckline of the dress wouldn’t really show.  I also liked putting on textured tights with this.  I thought it was interesting with the pattern of the dress.

So…how’d I do on my 2nd challenge?  I think this one was even more challenging than the first LOL!  But I’m so glad I did it, I would’ve never thought to wear this dress to work since it was so summery and revealing but now I can, YAY!

I’ve always packed away summer dresses once Fall hit…never thought I could continue to wear them. You did such a great job with this challenge, and I’m inspired to keep my summer dresses out now!

Lol at CynthiaC’s comment! Very true!

I agree with PAG – I love seeing this cardigan on other blogs.

Teal is a gorgeous color on you! Great job!

Hey! I recognize that cardigan! =)

The cardi matches your dress so well! And I never would have thought to wear a turtleneck under a dress. I agree with Cee, it looks like your dress has magically become a skirt, and you now have a totally different outfit.

I love seeing how everyone is styling this cardigan! Lol, it’s on AN’s post too (as you obviously know) and it was funny seeing it as Vicky’s blogger icon, too, while I was scrolling down to leave a comment.

The Fall outfit is adorable. Teal is gorgeous for Fall against all the red and orange leaves. Great job!

    Thanks everyone!
LOL I guess Kelly and I think a like 😉

@stylepint – maybe you’re right, I’ll try the look out with non patterned tights.

@CynthiaC – LOL glad I didn’t portray the grunge image!

@Thanks Nelah! Darker colours are definitely “go-to’s” for me, but I do love colour equally, it’s just harder to wear.

@Vicky, hmmm good suggestion. I don’t have a nice brown cardi so I’ll have to put that on the shopping list 😉

Really like the dress as a summer dress! I’m not quite sure about the fall look. I wasn’t sure why, but I thought about it for a while and this is what I think. The blue cardigan on a already very busy bluish dress doesn’t help to subdue the business, but rather makes it look even busier. I think a brown cardigan would work better.

I like how the fall/winter look makes the dress look like a skirt! The layers on top plus the turtleneck really makes it seem like a different top. Great job!

Turtleneck under a dress is a great idea! Not only does it lend modesty for the office, but also makes it easier to bear cold temperatures. Great job!

You give Fall fashion a new definition. While most people go for dark colors like brown, gray and black, you make a good use of blue.

I love how you made a summer dress work for the fall! Mine usually get packaged up and moved out of my closet, but now I’m inspired to layer them for fall outfits. Thanks for the inspiration!

Nice work on the layering! I really like the hues of turquoise in your outfit! Your ribbed tights look so comfy and the boots are something that I lack in my shoe collection. I need to go shopping!

Not only do I love the colour, but I like how you made boots and floral not look early ’90s Seattle/grunge!!! 🙂

That ruffle cardigan is so popular!

I’m not entirely sold on the patterned tights since the dress already has such a vibrant design, the tights kind of take away from it.

Overall, it’s great that your outfit palette matches the colors of your dress. =)
