New twist on an old discovery

Posted on August 15, 2010November 4, 2014 by Elaine

So the other day I was going through my closet and found this lovely shirt dress that I forgot I had!  I put it on and the fit was great, but I remembered why I didn’t wear it very often.  Because it was a shirt dress with buttons going all the way down I wasn’t comfortable wearing just my underwear and bra underneath.

BUT upon further inspection of my drawers I found a slip that my mom gave to me.  A little big but only I new that and it did the trick:

Dress: H&M size 2
Slip:  mom’s
Belt:  Danier
Flower clip: Petit Plume (see review here)

Not really sure if being able to see your slip is a faux pas or not – I’m sure my mom would think so, but I kind of liked the slip peaking out from this dress.  Hey it’s better than exposing myself, right?

I initially wanted to wear the flower in my hair that day, but I was lazy to put my hair up so I decided to clip it to the belt.  I like how it turned out.  Adding a new colour and pattern to the outfit in a subtle manner.

That’s all for now!  Had a crazy busy weekend but it was super fun celebrating a close friend’s upcoming wedding 🙂  Hope everyone else had a great weekend too!

Love that outfit! The color of that dress is great, I love the full skirt, and I agree, the slip peeking out is sort of cute 🙂

Wow thanks everyone! I was kind of unsure about this outfit, but thought what the heck I’ll give it a go! Turns out it wasn’t a fail after all 🙂

I love this dress! LOVE it!!! Such a pretty color and it’s a great color on you specifically. I love the addition of the white belt and the flower.

I’ve seen other bloggers layer a shirt dress (unbuttoned) over top of another dress. The examples I’ve seen turned out really cute. I do like the slip peeking out from underneath, it looks like just another layer to the dress that was made to be seen.

Hi! Thanks for your comment on my blog! I’m from Toronto as well. Nice to meet you!

I like the colour of this dress on you! I don’t think I can pull off a fully green outfit. The belt definitely adds a cute touch. And I don’t think seeing the slip is a fashion faux pas because yours looks pretty with the lace! If anything, the slip should be just a little bit longer. 😛

I’m all about the slip showing..lol.
I don’t think there is such a thing as a faux pax as long as you do it right!

I absolutely adore seeing the little slip! A lot of dresses incorporate a “fake slip” underneath so why not just add one on your own??! =0D Hey, cute ring too!

I don’t mean to be a creep but I like the new design on your blog! Very chic, indeed.
