Casual Work Wear: Capri Pants

Posted on July 21, 2010November 4, 2014 by Elaine

My current place of employment has no real dress code.  For real.  Most days people are in jeans, some people wear track pants and sweaters with holes in them. Some ladies reveal a little too much in my opinion and some guys need to leave their logo t-shirts at home. Some departments have uniforms depending on the job function.  I’m mostly in the office and while I can wear really casual outfits, I like to dress up a bit but I don’t want to be so done up that I’m uncomfortable.

Top:  H&M size 4
Camisole:  Smart Set XS
Capris:  Jacob size 1/2
Shoes:  BCBG girls
Overall I think the outfit is “okay”.  It’s comfortable, I’m not pulling or adjusting anything.  I think the shirt fits well and the capris fit nice on my waist and butt.  But I think I need to accessorize more.  I need to make this look a little more special.  I’m also not sure what the ideal length of capri pants should be (am I even spelling ‘capri’ properly????)
Couple more pics:

It’s hard to find “work wear” tops so this top is staying in my wardrobe for sure.  I tend not to have as many button down tops because the seams at the bust never fit right and I find that buttons are spaced too far apart causes gaps if you’re not careful.
So…what is the ideal capri length?

I’ve viewed some of your post. Been following the same bloggers as you (Extra petite – favourite, Alterations Needed, Really Petite…) They’re good “teachers”, eh? I love that your from Canada like me (Vancouver) so I know I can get the stuff you’re wearing closeby.

I recently purged my work clothes of capris as they are tricky for short people (I’m 5′). I just wear them around the house now. Having said that, I think this works for you tho.

I know what you mean about being unsure! I have the same problem with no dress code at work too, so that makes it harder. I think this length is really cute on you actually, and if you wanted to look taller, you could always wear a higher heel or nude-ish wedge.

As for accessorizing, maybe a long necklace?

I use “capri” to mean anything from bermuda shorts (right around the knee) to ankle length cropped pants (even longer than yours above!) I don’t know what the true definition is though… so your guess is as good as mine!

Thanks very much for the input! As I become more critical of my clothes I sometimes become a bit unsure. I love getting honest feedback 🙂

I think your outfit is fine and some bangles or a brooch pin might dress it up a bit. Capris and cropped pants are the same thing in my mind…as long as its length is somewhere between the knee and the ankle.

As for the idea length, I think it depends on the person. That length seems to work well with you, you should stick with it. I like ones that hit right below the knee or right at the ankle.

I think you look cute! As for “capri” length, I think those are slightly too long (they’re more like cropped pants to me… but I’m by no means an expert at these things!)
