BEAUTY FEATURE: L’Oreal Mousse Absolue Hair Colour

Posted on November 28, 2013December 13, 2014 by Elaine

A couple weeks back I was invited to the Del Monaco hair studio in downtown Toronto to test out the new L’Oreal Mousse Absolue hair colour.

I’ve always been kind of weary of home hair colour – I know it’s not that difficult but I’m always so paranoid that I will make a mistake and then have to pay a lot of money to get it fixed. My mom however, is a pro at doing her own colour – her one complaint though is that she has to waste so much product because she has short hair and can never use up all the dye provided. As you probably know at home hair colour requires you to mix two chemicals together and use immediately. Anything not used should be thrown out.

Here’s where L’Oreal Mousse Absolue is different.

This is the key! (Sorry for the blurry picture). Instead of mixing the products together they are kept separately. You pop the cap on (the cap is off in the photo) and when you dispense the product it mixes automatically so you never waste product! You can colour your hair and will still have some left over for another application if your hair is really short or use it for a root touch up – brilliant right?

The colour I chose was #556 Volcanic Brown – a rich reddish brown – so perfect for the colder months!
Here is how my hair colour was before the Mousse Absolue application:

Man my hair gets frizzy! You can see how dark my roots are – when you have curly hair you can get away with not colouring your hair as often.

Here is Eric Del Monaco applying the product to my hair – you can see that it really is mousse like which is great so you don’t have to worry about drips! I asked Eric for advice on at home colouring and he said this product was very easy to work with so just to apply it as if I were shampooing my hair.
One word of caution however – the smell upon application is quite strong so be sure you work in a well ventilated area!
While I was waiting for the colour to do its thing it was great hanging out with other bloggers all getting their hair done too!

And of course you’re interested in the after right?

My pictures aren’t the greatest but check out Stiletto Twins’ post as she did her hair in the same shade and it also looks AMAZING on her!
If you dye your hair at home do you think you’d be interested in trying this product out?

Did you have to have clean hair prior to using th mousse?

Hi JC! I didn’t have to – this colour was applied to my hair in the evening after I had gone the whole day with product in my hair. I’m not sure having product in your hair previous makes a difference but the colour seemed to take well on my hair!
