ROUND UP: Primers to keep you shine free

Posted on August 7, 2013March 30, 2020 by Elaine

I am shiny all year round but when it comes to warmer months I’m even more aware that people may be able to see their reflection in my face (and I’m not getting all deep or anything here).

Primers are key when it comes to keeping shine away and your makeup in place. I wanted to check out a few that claim to help keep shine at bay. Here are three products that have been doing the job for me this summer.

Benefit primer CollageI really like this one from Benefit – Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer – as it comes in a stick form and is super easy to apply AND invisible. Since it’s a solid there were no issues with me over applying. This is a common mistake when using primers – a thin layer is all you need! Also, how can you NOT love the packaging! I’m such a sucker for polka dots too! This primer kept me shine free for a few hours however my makeup still got a bit cakey in my smile lines.
(Speaking of smile lines – I did a google search hoping to come up with an graphic for smile lines and found this —-> http://www.geekalerts.com/kogao-smile-lines-face-belt/ WTH?)

I really wish I didn’t have blemishes and scars to cover up as this SkinPerfect Primer with SPF 30 from  Dermalogica would be the ideal product for glowing summer skin.Of course since it’s a primer it works well under makeup but the areas of my skin where I don’t have to cover up so much looked fantastic after one sheer application of this stuff! It’s formulated to smooth away fine lines and brighten up the skin.

You can see (I hope!) how when it blends out it just leaves a nice “glow” to the skin. If uneven skintone was all I was worried about I think this would be my go to product! It definitely kept shine away especially in the nose and forehead areas though I still had to retouch in the smile line area too.

I love discovering new brands especially when they become part of my daily routine. This purifying mattifier from Amala is formulated with botanical ingredients to control shine and also refine and purify pores making it an ideal primer too.

This product is a lightweight gel and completely disappears into the skin. I find it best to apply it with a foundation brush since when I used my fingers I used too much making my foundation “flake off” during application. You need so little to get the job done so it’s great that this product goes a long way.

It kept me shine free in my t-zone area for almost the entire day and although I still had makeup buildup in my smile lines it’s the least noticeable when using this product first.

Do you have any go to primers or other products to keep you shine free especially in the warmer summer months? I’d love to hear what you use!
