ON SCENE: Backstage at World Mastercard Fashion Week Mackage + Soia & Kyo

Posted on April 5, 2013December 13, 2014 by Elaine

So World Mastercard Fashion Week was a blur – it always usually is. 5 days of back to back shows, it’s really fast paced and full of energy.

I was backstage 2 nights and saw 2 runways shows. I’ll talk about the runways shows I saw in another post and just take you behind the scenes in this post.First up I chatted with Jorge Joao for Redken about upcoming trends.
He informed me that it’s really all about texture and movement. Too perfect styles need to be a little more messy and cuts should create a lot of interest. I asked him what his thoughts were on the ombre trend  – he said he still liked it but it was time to move on. And I asked him if a curly haired girl like me could get in on the braid trend (that seems to never go out of style) or would it get lost in my curls.
He quickly flagged down a model to show me how to do a “knot braid”.

Isn’t that so cool??? All he did was take 2 pieces of hair, twist them a bit then tie them together then kept adding pieces as he went and kept tying! I definitely have to try this out.
For the Mackage show the hair was kept simple playing with wet and dry textures.

Unfortunately I failed to take a picture of Jorge 🙁 He was pressed for time obviously and I completely forgot to find him again afterwards.
Next up I chatted with Grace Lee for Maybelline about the look for the Mackage Show.

The models donned gorgeous glowy skin and red stained lips with just mascara to highlight the eyes. For Mackage her inspiration was the modern stylish women of Montreal walking the streets with a latte in hand.

After the show I managed to snap a couple pictures of the models and their final looks.

Also backstage I was there when ET Canada was interviewing Joe Mimran of Joe Fresh fame!

This was all very exciting for me – I wish I had gone up to him and asked for a photo op! But I was by myself at that point and didn’t have anyone  to ask to take a photo for me.

On to the next day!!

The look for the Soia & Kyo show was similar. Fresh skin though a bit more matte and this time soft pink lips.

The hair for the show was really simple – after the show I snapped a photo of the models standing with the designer backstage.

Oh yeah…and THIS also happened!

Stacey Mckenzie is seriously so nice and gracious! She posed for a couple of photos with me. I just wish we had better light, but hey, there’s always next time! 🙂
Look out for my posts on the two shows I checked out – Mackage and Soia & Kyo and Ashley will have a great round up of all the back stage looks.Huge thanks to the Redken and Maybelline teams for being such amazing hosts!
