Eczema Awareness Month

Posted on November 27, 2014March 30, 2020 by Elaine

Eczema is a common skin condition that about 3 million people in Canada live with and suffer from. I have a few people very close to me who suffer from this condition and it can often be a challenge to keep it under control and prevent flare ups.

November is Eczema Awareness Month and to help raise awareness Aveeno Active Naturals has launched a twitter campaign #AskTheEczemaExperts to provide the opportunity to sufferers of this condition to learn tips on managing the condition from eczema experts Amanda Cresswell-Melville and Dr. Lyn Guenther.

The Eczema Society Seal of Acceptance was established by the Eczema Society of Canada as part of a patient empowerment program where moisturizers and cleansers are reviewed to earn recognition as an accepted choice for people with sensitive skin. AVEENO® is proud to carry this seal on a line of specially-formulated #AVEENOEczemaCare products.

Qualifications to earn it include:

  • Being free of ingredients known to be irritating for sensitive skin; and
  • Undergoing dermatologist formulation review.

Here are some useful tips for managing eczema:

My baby has eczema as well, my doctor mentioned that it’s because our house is dry and to moisturize the skin?? Could it go away when my son gets older?

In the winter the area around my lips gets eczema leading to painful cracks in the corners of my lips. Are there any products out there that are meant for the face and/or lips?

I would have to ask what the best product to use on the upper arm’s would be – mine are horrible in the winter, so sore and dry!

What are some tips for eczema in seniors? They keep applying creams but nothing seems to help. This leads them to resort to steroids which is obviously not great in the long run.

I tend to only have eczema on my pinky, it get’s so bad that it starts to eat away at my cuticles. I’ve tried asian tropicals before but it’ll only work for a few days.

Is eczema only caused by external irritants or can it flare up due to something you ate.

Can you develop eczema in your late 20s? I have yet to go to a doctors, but I feel like I have developed eczema in the last couple of years and I’m in my late 20s!
