Huge thanks to Ski Petite for hosting the latest installment of the Petite Fashion Challenge! I can’t believe we’re on #11 already and these challenges are getting harder and harder! If you are a fellow petite (5’4″ and under) and would like to sign up for the next challenge bookmark this thread in the Alterations Needed Forum and watch out for the next announcement!
Vacation Vogue
When going on a vacation, it’s hard to bring clothes for every possible scenario. There’s only so much room in your suitcase. But beyond that, choosing outfits to wear each day while sightseeing can be daunting when the climate is different than you are used to or you’re going to multiple types of destinations. You also are usually taking tons of photos and don’t want to be in the same outfit in every photo.
So, the challenge:
Put together an outfit made for sightseeing. It should be one that will be comfortable for walking around in and can last you from the early morning until dinner and drinks in the evening. Plus, you’re on vacation, so you’d better make sure you look good in photos, which you’ll have for years to come.
You can choose just one outfit but vary it by adding or taking off layers or accessories to take you from the a.m. to the p.m. and make one outfit easier to last through the day.
I was excited about this one initially because I was about to go on vacation when this challenge was announced. But wouldn’t it figure that this is the FIRST vacation where we didn’t go on any excursions so I pretty much just lived in my swim suit LOL!
I managed to pull something together last minute so here is my “sight seeing” outfit first:
(sorry about the tan lines – but proof that I did get some sun
Genius!! And it looks like a dress that doesn’t wrinkle and packs easily. I didn’t know Avon did dresses too…
Elaine – I love how the dress looks with the halter neck. I totally need a dress like this. It makes you look really tall, as well. I love that with the strapless look it’s beachy and casual, but then with the halter neck it’s evening elegant.
What a COOL concept! I love this skirt/dress conversion. This is the perfect vaca item, just throw it in the suitcase and with different accessories you are all set. Kudos for finding it. Speaking of vacations I need one now…

They’re definitely handy – I don’t know about just one for a whole vacation though LOL! Although something in black definitely is more versatile!
Thanks Joy! A la Miss Stephanie
The convertible dress is a smart idea!! It looks great on you!
I’m thinking about getting one too… (wish all clothes are convertible so I’d only need 1 for the entire vacation…)
love the top knot on you!!
Thanks New Petite! I’ve been getting so many compliments on the hair too – will tell my friend who did it for me
OH it is comfy!!! So lightweigh and airy, a definite vacation must
Thanks so much for your comment!
Thanks SPG!! Eeeks!!! I didn’t do my hair, my friend did it for me! If I do learn how to do it I’ll post a tutorial. It was a hair workshop and another friend was taking pictures so if the detailed shots look good maybe I’ll post and try and describe what she did
I’m sure you could get really creative with a convertible piece!
Haha! Thanks Michelle, sleek and sexy…I’ll take it!
LOL! Yeah tan lines take forever to go away but the nice glow on my face leaves in a few weeks
Thank you Cee, I wish I could have been more creative like you but again I was a last minute kind of girl
Thank you Sharon! They are definitely handy, and less to pack too since they do double duty!
Thanks so much Jess, it’s definitely an item I always bring with me on vacations.
Thanks Alli and thanks for hosting! I went to Punta Cana! Which is why I’m still thinking about hot weather vacations
It’s beyond me too LOL! I hope you get to join in on the next one!
Thanks SL! Can’t take credit for the top knot. My friend Steph of BlushPretty did it for me at one of her workshops. I still have to learn myself!
LOL I think you guys were all on the same page, I guess I was thinking about sight seeing in the DR and it would have been HOTTTTT!
Thank you Sydney, you did a great job too! I can’t believe just how last minute this look was

hehe Elaine you are still in summer mode! I didn’t think to dress for sightseeing in warm weather (have been waking up in a bed with like three comforters recently). Love the convertible dress, definitely a must have for traveling!
Oh WOW! Dressy skirt which is also a skirty dress. Brilliant!! Love your hair-do!
Wait…what? That dress/skirt/garment is MAGIC. Looks comfy too, great idea for vacation!
That dress is officially awesome! You look gorgeous in it and I absolutely adore your hair! Hair tut please

Sexy night look!!
Love seeing all this black! So sleek and sexy (there is that word again!)
The tan lines make you look sexier ; ) LOL My tan lines from Mexico didn’t go away for over a year!
This is such a cool way to wear a dress! I think I now need something like it
Great day-to-night looks, Elaine!
Hi, I love these convertible dresses. They are perfect for vacation and you can create so many looks with them (as you proved in this post)
Way to rock the convertible dress! It’s so simple and classy! =)
Good job! I like that used something convertible. I used convertible pants. Where did you go on vacation?
Great job! How you pulled this off last minute is beyond me! I had to skip this one but am enjoying seeing all you ladies! You look great Elaine!
Great job! I love how this look transitions so nicely from day to evening. I always pack LBDs for every vacation I go on. Love the topknot too!!
Whoohoo! You pulled it off at the last minute! I knew you’d come up with something.
I like how you turned the dress into a longer skirt for night…very creative! You look ready for some nice warm weather. Wait until you see my PFC outfit…I’m bundled up in 4 layers!!! Brrrr!!!
You pulled it off beautifully at the very last minute! I love the “night” look…very elegant =)
