Petite Fashion Challenge 11: Vacation Vogue

Posted on October 25, 2011 by Elaine

Huge thanks to Ski Petite for hosting the latest installment of the Petite Fashion Challenge!  I can’t believe we’re on #11 already and these challenges are getting harder and harder!  If you are a fellow petite (5’4″ and under) and would like to sign up for the next challenge bookmark this thread in the Alterations Needed Forum and watch out for the next announcement!

Vacation Vogue
When going on a vacation, it’s hard to bring clothes for every possible scenario. There’s only so much room in your suitcase. But beyond that, choosing outfits to wear each day while sightseeing can be daunting when the climate is different than you are used to or you’re going to multiple types of destinations.  You also are usually taking tons of photos and don’t want to be in the same outfit in every photo.
So, the challenge:
Put together an outfit made for sightseeing. It should be one that will be comfortable for walking around in and can last you from the early morning until dinner and drinks in the evening. Plus, you’re on vacation, so you’d better make sure you look good in photos, which you’ll have for years to come.
You can choose just one outfit but vary it by adding or taking off layers or accessories to take you from the a.m. to the p.m. and make one outfit easier to last through the day.

I was excited about this one initially because I was about to go on vacation when this challenge was announced.  But wouldn’t it figure that this is the FIRST vacation where we didn’t go on any excursions so I pretty much just lived in my swim suit LOL!

I managed to pull something together last minute so here is my “sight seeing” outfit first:

Dress: mark by Avon (old) size small
Shoes: Browns size 7
(sorry about the tan lines – but proof that I did get some sun 😉 )
Usually on vacation I’m all about bright colours and prints but when we’re going sightseeing you tend to sweat – and well black clothes hides this well LOL!  Also strapless is a must for me.  I can always throw on a shawl or a sweater on top but I likely I would be outdoors in hot and humid weather.  I would actually wear this on top of my swim suit while on an actual vacation excursion.  Comfortable shoes like these are a must.  I might wear flip flops or my puma running shoes as another option (depending on the type of excursion).
Now to change this into night, I put on a top and made this into a longer skirt.

Top: unknown and old
Earrings: Avon (old)
Bracelet: Stella and Dot
This dress/skirt is actually MEANT to be convertible, just fold over as much as you want to become a short dress or unfold for a mid length dress.  Push down to your hips and you’ve got a skirt!
For night I would have just packed this shirt, heels, a pair of earrings and a bangle.
So that’s it!  I know that wasn’t as creative as I could have made it, but as I said these challenges are getting harder and harder!  I hope you’ll check out all the other ladies participating!  And I hope to see more people joining in on the next Petite Fashion Challenge 🙂
Thanks again Ski Petite for hosting!

  • You *know* I had to! Once I had my wedding hair & makeup trial, I put the look TO WORKKK! ✏️ To get a sense of how my look would perform on my wedding day, I did: ✅ a humidity test ✅ a transfer test ✅ a kiss test ✅ a food test ✅ a crying test ✅ an exertion test It was a ton of fun and really gave me a sense of how the look would handle the various stresses of a wedding day. The tests showed what worked well and where we needed to make some small
