Lash Update

Posted on September 28, 2011March 30, 2020 by Elaine

I’ve been getting several requests to do a lash update so I’ll do a really quick one here.  I took these pictures on the weekend after about one month of getting my lashes done.  You can see the difference of the my original lashes vs with my lash extensions in this post.  Ingrid of Sweet Grass Spa was also nice enough to answer some of your questions in the comments.

Just to see the difference I’ll take one of my before and after shots and put it next to an “after one month” shot.

Before, after, after one month
I know I’m showing different eyes here but you can definitely see the difference.  The the “before shot” you can see how fine my lashes are.  They’re barely noticeable.  In the “after shot” there is a significant difference.  In the “after one month shot” you can see I still have a lot of length but  the lashes aren’t as full and are a bit sparse in areas due to my natural lashes falling out and taking the lash extensions with them.
I think after a month they still looked quite good!
Now that I’ve experienced them for a month let me talk about the good and the bad.
The good:
I really love the look. There were days where I felt comfortable going out with NO eye makeup at all.  Before my lash extensions I would curl my lashes and apply mascara at a minimum.  I just felt that without minimal makeup I looked really young and looked tired.
When I did wear makeup I skipped the liner all together.  Where I felt it was sparse in some areas I just touched up with eye shadow and an angled brush.
The bad:
If I did wear eye makeup it was a pain to remove since I wanted to be so careful around the lash area.  Also, when using cotton pads the fibres would stick to the synthetic lashes and I’d have to carefully pull them out.
I did end up going for a relash with Laura again this time at her studio Be Fabulous located at College and Yonge in Toronto.  And I purchased these special eye make-up remover pads ($20) which will hopefully help with the “bad” listed above.
Photo 001
I haven’t tested the pads out yet since I haven’t been wearing eye makeup the past few days but when I do I will update on how I like them.  If they work well then this might convince me to keep up the lashes for even longer!Laura also let me know that she got new lashes in called “L” shaped lashes which are supposed to be quite good for Asian eyes or for people with straight lashes.  She said it will also work well for people with single lids because of where the curl starts.  If you’re thinking about getting lash extensions done I highly recommend someone trained in Xtreme Lashes as Laura is.  I know there have been a lot of group coupons out there lately and the prices seem too good to be true…and sometimes they are.  One coupon we were discussing advertised lash extension application for a ridiculously low price and when you read the fine print it was strip lashes – like the kind you can just buy in the stores!!!  Make sure to do your research!!
For those of you have had lash extensions what was your personal experience? And if anyone has any questions about it please let me know in the comments or through email!
***Disclosure: my first re-lash was provided courtesy of Be Fabulous but I was not asked to write a post in exchange****

Thank so much!! I definitely wish I had more natural lashes so that I could get more lashes adhered to them 😛

😉 Well it’s all about personal preference! I’m surprised at how much I love them!

Hey SPG! No I haven’t tried those lash serums but from what I can tell they do work! My dad has glaucoma and the side effect of the eye drops he uses makes your lashes longer and fuller! So he has nice full lashes on one eye LOL!

SO PRETTY!! Is this the same place Meredith went for her lashes? I like I like! 🙂 I would be so happy waking up with lashes like that without having to use the eyelash curler and coats of mascara O_O

Wow, I’m rather impressed with how long your lashes have lasted! Have you ever tried one of those lash serums? I stopped when I got preggers but saw a difference (def. not as dramatic as yours of course) after using RapidLash.

Hi Alicia & Elaine, occasionally people have a reaction, but it is rare. Sometimes a certain application product can be eliminated which is triggering a reaction, and thereafter all is fine. Most people who have reactions already know going in that they tend to have sensitive eyes. Poor application technique could also be a contributing factor to causing irritation.

Yes the eye makeup can be tricky to remove, but it just takes practice like anything else 😛 I’m kind of taking a positive spin on it – I have to be more gentle when removing my eye makeup now so that should mean less wrinkles in the future right? 😉

No I haven’t!!! Eeeks! I wonder if it’s the adhesive though, although it shouldn’t touch the skin at ALL and only the lashes. I’ll ask Laura about her experience.

I’ve been thinking about going into the many ‘lash bars,’ we have in Chicago to get this done. But my one concern is the eye make-up remove process. And like you noted, somewhat tricky to remove! I may need to practice false eyelash application…ugh the things we do for beauty!

I’ve heard of a couple of people who have had bad allergic reactions to lash extensions. Have you heard of that before?
