The Last Time I Wore Shorts and a new clutch!

Posted on September 11, 2011December 21, 2014 by Elaine

So where did summer go?  Everyone has been commenting that as soon as September hit the weather cooled down drastically!  This past weekend in Toronto was actually beautiful – perfect for star gazing at the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF).  Did you see my video of Ryan Gosling?  If you “like” Toronto Beauty Reviews on Facebook you probably would have seen it!  Here is the link and the video below:

Anyway, I’ve pretty much transitioned into fall.  I’ve been wearing pants mostly since I have to still dig out my tights! But I thought I would post one of the last times I wore shorts this summer and also me sporting my new purse!
IMG_3742
Shorts: Banana Republic
Shirt: Joe Fresh
Tank (under shirt):  Joe Fresh
Purse: Rebecca Minkoff clutch (from Dealuxe)
I’ve been eyeing this clutch ever since I saw it on Tiffany of I Am Style-Ish and I’ve been keeping my eyes open for sales! I managed to score this pretty bag on a sale site called Dealuxe.ca.  At the moment this site is only for Canadians only offering FREE shipping and returns!  Here is my referral link or I can send you an email 🙂
I love that this clutch has a detachable strap and that it’s long enough to be used as a cross-body.
IMG_3754
But…can you see that on a shorty like me it’s a bit too long?  I prefer my cross-body bags to hit me closer to the hip.  I would wear this bag like this with a long skirt/dress or with pants.  I don’t like when cross-body bags hit lower than what I’m wearing on the bottom!  I also don’t like wearing them with a short skirt even if the purse hits higher than the skirt because it tends to cause the skirt to creep up!
Here is a close up of the bag and then I’ll show how I solved this problem.
IMG_3755
This colour is called denim.  It’s gorgeous! I love that it’s such a vibrant colour but the shade of blue can make it casual too.
So here is a picture of the shortened strap:
IMG_3757
All I did was take the hook part where the strap detaches from the clutch and clip it to the ring at the leather part of the strap.  Then I re-attached the strap back to the clutch.
Picture of the strap attached to itself:
IMG_3756
And now attached back to the clutch:
IMG_3751
In the next picture you can see how the clasp has both “rings” attached to it.
IMG_3748
And now it’s a shoulder bag!
IMG_3744
Anyone else have this clutch?  I know Kileen of Cute and Little does and she always rocks it!  Have you ever had to make modifications to your purses to make them work for you?

I’m so in love with your Rebecca Minkoff! I desperately need a Minkoff in my life but they’re a little pricey. Maybe I can get the bf to buy me one 😉

I am the most delinquent reader when it comes to commenting so here’s me finally logging in on my account. 😀

you should wear shorts more often because you have the legs to pull it off.

And you smart cookie you! A great way to shorten the length, I wouldn’t have think to do that! I only have a few crossbody bags but the small ones can typically be looped around a few times to shorten the strap length (like the chanel woc) so I haven’t had to DIY.

@Style Journey Yes I love versatile pieces! Thanks for the hair compliment – I already took them out but I can re-dye them and put them back in in the future!

@Lisa – respect the shoes Oh you do?!? Yes I think at full price it IS expensive, that’s why I stalked for a great sale 😉 It does make a pretty good shoulder bag!

@Jen So talented isn’t he? Love that he’s Canadian too! Actually he’s from Burlington which isn’t too far from Toronto!

@Arianne LOL is that you pawing or your kitty?? 😛

@Really Petite Thanks Annie! I got your DM 😉
@TaraMixandMatch Thank you so much Tara! 🙂

@Nelah So glad you like it Nelah, the outfit and the clutch 🙂

@SewPetiteGal It IS such a good size, especially for the weekends. My everyday purses are HUGE 😛

@Canadianpetite Man we always have opposite weather! Hmmm…never thought about that, let me experiment with that one – thanks for the suggestion!

Yay for outside pics! It’s the opposite here in the west coast – we hit 29!

To make it shorter as crossbody, can you take one strap through the loop hole, under the flap and clip to the other side of the purse?

I have always love RM bags but do not own any at this point. I love the color, neutral enough to match a lot of outfit. Your outfit is cute Elaine.

That bag is beautiful, I think Kileen has it in purple! I think you did a great job altering the strap and definitely an overly long strap on a crossbody bag can get disproportionate for a petite lady so you did a great job here! OMG..how fab is the video of Ryan!!!

I loves me some RM – so I am thrilled about your MAC! I have a cloth version and a studded version and loves them, but I did think they were a wee bit for a crossbody bag when I got the first one. I think they’d be perfect as a shoulder bag for us smaller in stature gals!

@meredith LOL M, that totally flew over my head, didn’t even realize! 😛

@Anjali LOL I mostly just browse the site but had been eyeing this purse for a long time! hahahaha! He does look like his younger self with that hair 😛

    @Katherine yes I’m so happy it’s versatile!

@newpetite Oh man! I actually took the extensions out on Friday 😛 This picture was from a few weeks ago (I’m always really behind in posting!)

@Petite in the City Thank Lor! Yeah I would like a classic flap but that’s sooo not in the cards. At the end of season the RM will probably be on sale again 😉

@FunnyFaceBeauty Alicia, the energy and buzz in the city during TIFF is amazing!!!!

@Tiffany Thanks Tiffany! You’re always such a style inspiration 🙂

@Jennifer Hahaha! I hope you get your Christmas wish 😉

Cute clutch! I’ve been looking for a cross-body but haven’t found anything I love…I just daydream of WOC, and I guess I missed the deal on this rebecca minkoff!

Usually when bags don’t fit…I just don’t buy them! I guess there’s probably a lot of bags I could have bought if I were creative to make a few modifications!
