Petite Fashion Challenge #9 – Heat Wave Appropriate

Posted on July 30, 2011 by Elaine

Another Petite Fashion Challenge is here! This time the challenge was hosted by the ever stylish Elle of Fast Food and Fast Fashion.

This month’s challenge:

…create an outfit that accounts for the various environmental factors that plague us in the summer. I want to know how you dress when it’s 90 degrees outside and 65 degrees inside. Do you utilize peel-able layers? Are you particular about choosing fabric that is light but resistant? Or do you just tack on a blazer over summer clothes?

Toronto has definitely experienced a few heat waves this summer. It can be difficult to dress appropriately for the weather then step into the office where the a/c is blasting!

I love the look of the pencil skirt but it’s been way too hot and sticky for that lately.  I try to pick materials that are light weight and comfortable but I also want to remain conservative and appropriate for a work place setting.

Silk Skirt: Banana Republic 00P purchased from Extra Petite‘s blog sale (see post here)
Top:  Banana Republic Factory Silk Blend Top 00P (see more views on FitReview here)
Shoes:  Nine West Size 7
Belt: Danier XS
Necklace: mark by Avon
I like the light weight feel of silk and cotton it doesn’t stick to you when it’s humid.  I also hate the feel of too much jewellery so for me statement necklaces in the summer are usually out except maybe in the evenings or if I know I will be indoors.  This light weight necklace adds just a bit of interest.

To cover up for the office I picked another lightweight item – a cotton jacket (for more casual work environments)

Jacket:  LOFT Factory size 00P
But if your cubicle is like mine and is located where the vent air is blowing directly on you, you can always throw this on as well:

(I REALLY wear this at my desk. Seriously.)

I totally agree, NO statement jewelry when it’s hot.. it feels terrible! I go for lightweight scarves instead.

Maybe I should get a snuggie too! Haha I literally burrito myself in blankets, air conditioning is so pesky sometimes..

Lol, so cute! I’d totally live in a Snuggie at my office too – I’ve been known to bundle up in my parka when it’s cold inside!

Great outfit!! It looks nice and breezy, not too tight and light colours, great for the heat wave weather! I find that true about statement jewelery too, especially in this weather, yuck!! I’m sad I missed out on this fashion challenge and it wasn’t hard! I can’t believe you included a pic of your snuggie…LOL…love it!!

Love the muted colors of your outfit – the subtle prints give it such interest! I guess I have no excuse not to pick up a Snuggie myself to deal with my own office vent…

This outfit is so pretty! I love the shape of your skirt! And that top is a great cut, as well!

Very true about jewelry during the hot months…I rarely reached for a bracelet this summer. If I did it was dainty!
