Petite Fashion Challenge #5

Posted on January 25, 2011December 21, 2014 by Elaine

Petite Fashion Challenge #5 was graciously hosted by Cynthia of Shorty Stories  and the challenge was to “brighten up your Winter blahs”.  This challenge was timely as it’s definitely grey and dreary out around here!

The challenge was as follows:

Create a sophisticated work appropriate look that has no more than one dark piece (it can be a skirt, pants, a blazer, sweater etc…) excluding shoes, accessories and hosiery.

So…I’m not sure how I did in the “sophisticated” aspect but I really don’t have many bright main pieces!  Most of my wardrobe consists of neutrals and I throw in colour with some individual pieces or accessories.  My casual wardrobe on the other hand (especially in the Summer!) is a lot brighter.

Anyway, here it is!

Blazer:  Mexx
Dress:  mark by Avon
Necklace:  mark by Avon
Boots:  Me Too (Winners)
Tights:  Ellen Tracy – NOT petite friendly!!!
I honestly don’t know if this worked or not.  I work in a casual environment and have worn this dress to work before with a cardigan but I do usually wear it in the Summer.

The dress is not a perfect fit on me, but the style of it isn’t meant to be fitted.  It’s actually quite comfortable to wear – perhaps I should make a point to wear it more often!

I also wasn’t sure what type of necklace to wear with this dress but I opted for something long since the neck on this dress is so high.

And here’s a peak at the back of the dress.  This is why I wouldn’t be able to wear this dress to work without a sweater or blazer on top!  I think the back is a bit revealing for an office.  And please excuse my hair, I was having an unbelievably extra frizzy day when I took these photos so up into a hair tie it went!

I must say I’m loving these Petite Fashion Challenges as they are certainly pushing me to think more creatively!  Here are my previous entries:

    love that you chose a black jacket to pair with your bright pink dress! Black jacket is a seasonless keeper.

    I love that dress! Did you buy it off a catalog? It’s so cute! I used to know someone who sold Avon stuff but I wouldn’t buy clothes because I was apprehensive about the fit. I did buy a shirt once and didn’t like the way it hung on me. This one’s super cute though.

    Hello just found you blog and lovey your outfit, the dress is a fantastic colour and I love it with the grey, it’s a super pretty combo! I too try to make my clothing items as seasonal as possible and re-mix them; it’s definitely more fun that way. xx veronika

    I can’t go to your site at work. Haha, firewalled because it’s labeled as having ‘adult’ content. Now I’m at home so I can comment. Phew 😀

    I think this totally works. That dress is great and a fab color! I like the long necklace. I noticed it before you mentioned why you opted for it, but your reasoning totally makes sense.

    Hey, I was in curls and pearls today! Well, my hair has been mean to me lately so it was more like stringy and pearls.

    @Gracie
    Thanks! I wasn’t sure about getting the booties at first but they’ve turned out to be pretty versatile.

    @Cee
    I usually think of soft pink or lavender to go perfectly with grey but I’m glad to find that this new combo works too.

    @PetiteXXS
    Yes they are actually such a great pattern! Need to find a pair that actually fits!

    @Ping
    Thank you Ping!!!

    @betty;
    Thank you! Yes, I love how the back makes it a bit different and a little flirty 😉

    @PetiteAsianGirl
    OMG I had to pull on those tights all day! I swear, they’re the smallest size and they’re made for someone who’s 5’9″! I probably could’ve pulled them over my head LOL!

    @SewPetiteGal
    Thank you 🙂 I thought grey wouldn’t be as harsh as black since the pink was already so bright. Who am I kidding the majority of my wardrobe is grey so I really had no choice 😉

    Yes never thought pink to be a “Winter” colour but I think it works, especially since it’s dark and magenta or fuschia like.

    same with me! My summer wardrobe is much (much), brighter and wearing silk pants in 20-30 degree weather is not the… warmest of material or the best of ideas but the things you do for fashion!

    I know what you mean about working in a casual environment. But I think you did a fabulous job on the challenge! Totally Sophisticated. I actually prefer it without the blazer because the high neckline really frames your collar bone giving off a proper look. I also like the long necklace for the reason you mentioned.

    The stockings and booties are adorable by the way!

    I have a similar dress form F21, and I love the slouchier fit. In my opinion this looks comfy and feminine on you : )
