Petite Fashion Challenge #5 was graciously hosted by Cynthia of Shorty Stories and the challenge was to “brighten up your Winter blahs”. This challenge was timely as it’s definitely grey and dreary out around here!
The challenge was as follows:
Create a sophisticated work appropriate look that has no more than one dark piece (it can be a skirt, pants, a blazer, sweater etc…) excluding shoes, accessories and hosiery.
Anyway, here it is!
The dress is not a perfect fit on me, but the style of it isn’t meant to be fitted. It’s actually quite comfortable to wear – perhaps I should make a point to wear it more often!
I also wasn’t sure what type of necklace to wear with this dress but I opted for something long since the neck on this dress is so high.
And here’s a peak at the back of the dress. This is why I wouldn’t be able to wear this dress to work without a sweater or blazer on top! I think the back is a bit revealing for an office. And please excuse my hair, I was having an unbelievably extra frizzy day when I took these photos so up into a hair tie it went!
love that you chose a black jacket to pair with your bright pink dress! Black jacket is a seasonless keeper.
that color is gorgeous on you !!
stop by sometime<3

I love that dress! Did you buy it off a catalog? It’s so cute! I used to know someone who sold Avon stuff but I wouldn’t buy clothes because I was apprehensive about the fit. I did buy a shirt once and didn’t like the way it hung on me. This one’s super cute though.
this look definitely brightens up any winter!! the color of your dress is just gorgeous:)
Hello just found you blog and lovey your outfit, the dress is a fantastic colour and I love it with the grey, it’s a super pretty combo! I too try to make my clothing items as seasonal as possible and re-mix them; it’s definitely more fun that way. xx veronika
I can’t go to your site at work. Haha, firewalled because it’s labeled as having ‘adult’ content. Now I’m at home so I can comment. Phew 😀
I think this totally works. That dress is great and a fab color! I like the long necklace. I noticed it before you mentioned why you opted for it, but your reasoning totally makes sense.
Hey, I was in curls and pearls today! Well, my hair has been mean to me lately so it was more like stringy and pearls.
@Gracie
Thanks! I wasn’t sure about getting the booties at first but they’ve turned out to be pretty versatile.
@Cee
I usually think of soft pink or lavender to go perfectly with grey but I’m glad to find that this new combo works too.
@PetiteXXS
Yes they are actually such a great pattern! Need to find a pair that actually fits!
@Ping
Thank you Ping!!!
@I am Khatu
I think you are one of the QUEENS of bright! I just love how you put everything together so effortlessly.

Thank you Collette, and congrats on your new venture!
@Erin
Erin, I think this colour would look great on you!
@Nelah
I do feel quite girly in it; I kind of just want to spin around and do a little twirl 😉
@Kiki
So sweet, thank you Kiki! <3
@Lor
Do the challenge anyway! Ask Cynthia to add your link to the list afterwards!
@fashionforteens
Thank you! You ddi a great job on your challenge too!
@littlenashua
Yes I’m trying to learn to make my non Winter clothes work for more seasons. Another reason why I love these little challenges!
@Callandra
Thank you Callandra!!!! 🙂 The blazer was a surprising find (non petite!)
@CynthiaC
Thanks Cynthia, and thank you for hosting once again!
@PetiteLittleGirl
Thanks Sydney 🙂 I loved your pink and black combo too!
@betty;
Thank you! Yes, I love how the back makes it a bit different and a little flirty 😉
@PetiteAsianGirl
OMG I had to pull on those tights all day! I swear, they’re the smallest size and they’re made for someone who’s 5’9″! I probably could’ve pulled them over my head LOL!
@SewPetiteGal
Thank you 🙂 I thought grey wouldn’t be as harsh as black since the pink was already so bright. Who am I kidding the majority of my wardrobe is grey so I really had no choice 😉
@Elle
That means so much coming from you! I think the majority rules – buy more pink items!
@Melissa
Thank you!! Please join in on the next challenge! And good luck with your 30 in 30!
@Em
Thanks so much Em :)I wish I had a grey blazer to go with it but it’s being repaired. Oh and I never thought about letting the hair down – might have to grow it a bit.
@Design girl
Thanks Allison! Was hoping you were going to join in on this one. I sent you an email 🙂
@Sisters Sincere
LOL yay twins!!!!
@Tara
Thanks Tara – LOL yes it’s fun to wear NOT at work but just out and about 😉
@ReallyPetite

@Alterations Needed
Yes, us curly haired girls must share in the pain together 😉
@The Little Dust Princess
Thanks Jessy! Maybe you could do the challenge just as a regular outfit post? Would love to see what you come up with!
@kileen
Yes never thought pink to be a “Winter” colour but I think it works, especially since it’s dark and magenta or fuschia like.
That jacket is so fierce on you – perfect shape love it!! The color of that dress is beautiful on your skin tone as well 😉
I love the gray tights and booties – creates a nice long leg and makes a non-winter dress very winter appropriate.
Love the dress on you, it’s such a pretty color! I also love the gray booties and overall color combination! Very cute:)
I love your dress!! And I like that shade of pink!!
I forgot about the fashion challenge..boo…
Bright and lovely… as always! 🙂 xoxo Kiki
I like your dress even more without a blazer because it has feminine details. The color is lovely on you.
I love it! I totally agree that these challenges make you think about dressing ways that you normally wouldn’t! I really like the brightly colored dress 🙂 I wish I had something similar!
You look great..love these muted tones…purple..black and gray…lovely:)
Stop by and say Hello:)

You made the right choice for your necklace! I really love that dress!! It is a great color and fit on you!! Great booties!!!
I totally understand the frizzy hair day! 🙂
same with me! My summer wardrobe is much (much), brighter and wearing silk pants in 20-30 degree weather is not the… warmest of material or the best of ideas but the things you do for fashion!
Elaine– you look great! i love that color on you, really compliments your skin nicely. i think the necklace is a nice touch and worked well with the dress and blazer.
Too bad they tights are not petite-friendly, but they go really well with your dress! You look lovely, Elaine 🙂
Lovely outfit, Elaine! Pink and gray is one of my favorite combinations too. I think you did a great job with the styling to make it winter appropriate. Tights and suede are usually my go to as well 🙂
I know what you mean about working in a casual environment. But I think you did a fabulous job on the challenge! Totally Sophisticated. I actually prefer it without the blazer because the high neckline really frames your collar bone giving off a proper look. I also like the long necklace for the reason you mentioned.
The stockings and booties are adorable by the way!
Nice outfit! I absolutely love the dress and the color is so vibrant!
I love the color of your dress paired with the gray – it’s such a beautiful color combination on you!
Lol…I love how you stressed the tights are NOT petite friendly! Do they bunch up around your thighs?
I have a similar dress form F21, and I love the slouchier fit. In my opinion this looks comfy and feminine on you : )
thanks 😀 and i absolutely love the purple dress, and it looks flattering on you <3 i also like how it has a scoop neck at the back side
love it =]
It totally worked. I really like the color of your dress. The blazer goes perfectly well with it. Great job!
Elaine, I really like the colour of the dress – definitely brightens in a season full of drab 🙂
P.S. Am I the only one who thinks this dress is totally fine for the office? Hair down – voila. 🙂
I think you look great and that outfit definitely looks sophisticated. I
YES, we are so wonder twins on this challenge!!! Love the cut of your dress-gorgeous back! Way to bring in the gray to balance the soft shade of your dress!
pinkish purple and grey go so well with each other! great job.
I think you most definitely met the criteria of sophisticated AND bright. I love this outfit! That dress is utter perfection on you, the color is SO pretty and blazers make me happy. 🙂
I think you definitely have sophisticated covered, I wear sort of casual dresses to work too under blazers so I’ll definitely be “borrowing” this color combo in the future. I have mentioned this before but pink is a GREAT color on you. 🙂
The colour of the dress is so pretty and it looks amazing on you!! Great job on completing the challenge!
xx The Little Dust Princess
Great color! I really like the dress with blazer look on you too. Oh…the winter frizzies…I know that all too well. =P
I may be biased but I love this color on you! It looks great with your skin tone! Good job!!!
The color of that dress is gorgeous! With that back, it must be fun to wear out in the summer (not to work, or course haha!!)
i love pink in the wintertime and this dress looks really great on you! i agree that it does need a blazer or cardigan and the blazer you chose makes it a very classic look. lovely!
