Sponge Bob Skinny Jeans!

Posted on November 5, 2010 by Elaine

LOL I’ll explain the post title later.

As I mentioned I’ve been doing quite a bit on online shopping lately (my poor, poor credit cards eeek!)

Anyway, the other day I received notice of a 3 day sale for 50% one piece of outerwear from Old Navy and through some coupon forums such as Bargain Moose and Smart Canucks (LOL sooooo Canadian!) I found out that an online code, LOULOU15 from Canadian Magazine Lou Lou for 15% was stackable.  I hurried myself over to the website and found that the ruffle wool jackets were on sale for $29!!  I was able to use both codes and got the coat for $12.33!!!!!!    So that’s the good news.  The BAD news is that a couple hours later when my friend wanted to buy a coat the price was back up to the full price of $99.50.  NOT COOL.   But I guess I scored a good deal.

Here is the coat (and you’ll get the title of my blog post)

Coat:  Old Navy Ruffle-Collar Wool Blend Jacket in XS (buy here or here)
Available in Petite on the US site in limited colours

When I came down to show my husband he exclaimed “hey there sponge bob” LOL!  and I told my friend O who added the line “skinny jeans” 😛

I know it’s super bright, but I like it!!   Do you think I could pull it off?   I was thinking of exchanging it  for this colour.  Or maybe just returning it all together.  But I figured for $12.33 I couldn’t pass up getting a fun coloured jacket 🙂 What are your thoughts?

I ordered a few other items as well to fulfill the requirement for free shipping over $50.

Old Navy Waffle-Knit Scoop Neck Tee (find it here – can’t seem to find it on the US site)

I LOVE this shirt!   It is seriously so comfortable and I think I could wear this with just about anything.  I love the fit too I don’t mind that the sleeves are a bit long – it adds to the coziness I feel in it 🙂   And it might be a little long for some other petite but I like the length.  I got this top for $10.20 after the Lou Lou discount.

I also picked up this cute little vest:

Linen-blend Open Front Vest in XS (find it here – out of stock on the US site!)

I just love the back it’s so cute!  I picked this up for $12.74 after the discount.

Lastly, I got this skirt which I’m very unsure about:

Cord mini size 0 – on the US site here sold on the Canadian site but similar here

It really is quite short so I can see why there isn’t a petite length available LOL!  I’m a taller petite though, for reference about 5’1″ and 3/4″.

I think it’s really cute, but I’m not sure how much wear I would get out of it.  Suggestions would be helpful!

Phew!!!  That was a crazy haul!  All in all, pretty happy with the sizing from Old Navy MUCH better fit than seen in my last review featuring Banana Republic items.

Wow for $12, I’d be much tempted to keep the coat too! I did order the same jacket in XSP (not nearly as good of a deal of course), but even that doesn’t fit too well so it’s going back.

@punksjunk – that’s the regular size ON coat. Unfortunately petites are not available in Canada online or in store 🙁

I love that first jacket very much. It is so pretty and its color brings a little sunshine and warmth to winter. If you are concerned it is too bright, perhaps adding more brown to tone it down. I would definitely keep it.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I may have to stop shopping for a while and take a BUNCH of stuff to a tailor LOL! I will experiment with styling the skirt as I still have time to return it. 🙂

Love that yellow coat… you can definitely pull off the colour! And it was only $12??? What the heck!!! I saw it at the mall here in Vancouver and it’s still original price at $69.99 or something like that. I don’t usually go into Old Navy but saw it on the racks and went in but went I saw the price I thought it was ridiculous. Going to go back and see if the price has changed now!

Tthe coat is very cute and the yellow colour is definitely very eye-catching and will stand out in the sea of black winter coats that one normally sees these days! And what a bargain!

I also really like the short corduroy skirt. What about wearing it with some charcoal grey patterned tights and tall boots?

$12 is an AMAZING deal! Especially from the price of $99!! The colour looks gorgeous on you. I probably would’ve went with the grey. haha

Congratulations on your low priced haul – great job! Most people wouldn’t look good in that bright yellow, but it looks really good with your complexion. I’m not sure where you like your coat sleeves to hit, but you could get these tailored up if you wanted to(especially since you saved so much on the coat)!! The cord skirt reminds me of the one Kelly from Alterations Needed bought at Jcrew. Kelly styled hers really cute if you’re looking for styling inspiration and the Jcrew mags have great ideas for shorter skirts too.

First of all, I heart your very cute post title!

Second, no girl, you are sooo not returning that Wool (!) Jacket! The colour is brilliant, its bold and fun! In the sea of black, you will shine like a spotlight!

And c’mon a quick dinner at the foodcourt cost more than that!

Third, we’ll be vest twins! I got that in same colour and black!

Fourth, I’m happy to see your haul! I’ve been eyeing that ON jacket and happy that at least one of us got it!

p.s. I was soo hungry at that fashion show, they served micro-sized appetizers, I guess that shouldn’t come as a surprise!

Deal on deal – that’s so awesome! I really like the color and detail on the yellow jacket. I wish it cinched a little at the waist for a more flattering fit but for the price, it’s definitely a keeper. Also love the vest + striped shirt combo!

What the… $12.33!?!?!?!?!? I’m beyond jealous! I got the same jacket and thought I scored a great deal at $28!! It looks great on you, color, fit, everything. I personally think it’s the perfect shade of yellow, not too bright, but just right. I call it my tweety bird jacket haha.

The top and vest look so comfortable on you. Keepers, I say. I agree with your assessment on the skirt… kind of short and I’m not so sure on the fit. In the last picture it looks pretty good, but not in the first one for some reason? I say return and use the $ towards a future purchase =)

LOL your coat was the same price as your vest! I read your title and was thinking, “I love Spongebob, maybe she got a pair of skinny jeans in the kids section or something.” The coat is cute, I like the bright color!
The cord skirt, I’m not so sure about. Maybe it is because it looks big? I’m not sure though, it might just need some ironing on the sides due to the packaging. Not a huge fan but I love the rest of the haul!

great haul at unbeatable prices!! the yellow jacket looks really good on you –i’ve personally always been afraid of wearing yellow as i feel like it washes me out with my yellow skin already, but it doesn’t seem bad on you at all!

i really like the vest too, especially with the ruffle detailing in the back. very cute!!

I love your haul! And these deals are hard to beat!!! I think your credit card should feel better knowing how great these deals are, I think the yellow jacket looks great on you, not too bright at all.

The only thing I only mildly like on you is the vest…seems a bit too long for us. But from the front it looks great. 🙂
