OOTD: Banana Republic Petite Friendly Dress

Posted on August 13, 2010November 4, 2014 by Elaine

I’m surprised I waited so long to post this dress, it’s one of my favorite finds from the BR outlet.  It’s so light weight and comfortable and a very neutral colour which I think can be worn all year round.

Dress:  Banana Republic size PXXS

Shoes:  BCBG Girls size 7
Jewellery:  Avon

I really like the pattern on this dress, it give it a lot of interest.  And it goes perfectly with the shoes I ALWAYS wear (hmmm…note to self…need to go shoe shopping!)
The skirt part of the dress is also kind of a “tulip” shape which reminds me of this skirt posted by a.fashion.deliberation.
Other views (look it has pockets!)
A closer look at the details – the top is like a “wrap” top, and there is pleating on the skirt starting at the waist band.  I have to wear a camisole underneath so as not be overexposed!
This is pretty much how I would normally wear this dress to work except that I would change up my accessories. Any ideas on how to liven this dress up with some colour?

    @Wendy – H&M has blazers in the kids section? Hmm…now I’m intrigued!

@PXXS – thank you – husband is the one with the decor eye 😉 I think this room just has better lighting and I’m using picasa to crop and rotate pics now.

@PetiteLG – haven’t tried a belt yet, but I will definitely be experimenting with all these great suggestions.

Cute dress and it fits you great. Your spot photo looks lovely. Have to try this dress with a belt? A belt with help define your waist and it will give your dress a whole different look

A bright blazer! H&M has a really cute coral one in the kids section right now – a Medium is perfect on me.

Thanks for all the comments everyone 🙂

@Miss Shopportunity – LOL I know I always feel like I have REALLY big feet compared to the other ladies!
@AN, Divya and stylepint – oooh thanks for the great ideas. Wow I’ll have to experiment quite a bit 😛
@jen – sorry for the darkness of the pics – my hair goes up like that when it’s really humid out and it grows too big for me to control it LOL!

Great dress! Any color would look great with the dress since it’s neutral. I’d go for brights and jewel tones as a pop of color! =)

What a classy looking dress! It fits you really well. I also really like your hair (or what I can see of it in the dark anyway!)… it completes the elegance of the look.

    Happy Friday!

I can tell why this is your favorite dress! it fits you like a GLOVE.

As for accessories, I’m thinking a large statement necklace (either gold+pearl or chunky turquoise?). Also, you could use a dark red leather belt + red jewelry (or black belt with gold hardware)…

in the fall/winter you could jazz it up by wearing a black/some other colored turtleneck under it or a peplum blazer over it (or a classic burberry-type trench!)…I can also imagine the dress look chic with a gray tweed longish coat and some black leather gloves…

also colored tights (teal or red or navy blue would be my choices) or patterned tights could also jazz it up.

just a couple suggestions… the possibility with a classic dress like this are endless.

I like your new photo background experiment. Looks good!

That dress fits so well! And I love that is has pockets. =)

It’s so neutral, I bet a lot of colors would go great with it. If you have red shoes or a red necklace, I think that would look really nice.

Love this dress! And I’m so happy to see a fellow petite that, like me, wears a size 7 shoes. Yay!

Wow this dress really does fit great on you and I like the classy pattern too! What a great outlet find! I don’t think color needs to be forced into this outfit (but then again my style is especially monotone so I’m not really the right person to offer an opinion on this).

Dresses/skirts with pockets are so classic! I have some reservations with pockets since they can add bulk and cause weird angles. I really like them on this dress, they are discreet and add to the tulip shape of the dress. Cute design on the dress!!

I added you on Twittaaah. I don’t have any tips on its usefulness, it pretty much operates on its own. (in my opinion that is)
