Avon has come out with a new line of makeup called “ExtraLasting” designed to do just that, last extra long!
From the Avon Canada website:
A Collection of long-wearing, multi-tasking, uncompromising makeup designed for busy women who don’t have time for touch-ups. The ExtraLasting Collection is all about color, comfort and confidence that your lipstick, foundation and mascara will stay put and not fade all day. The ExtraLasting Collection includes featherlight Liquid Foundation SPF12 with up to 18 hours of comfortable coverage for a face that’s always fresh, PLUS a new, expanded palette of 17 shades. ExtraLasting Lipstick and Lip Gloss look sensational from coffee to cocktails, with up to 8 hours of moisturizing color. Silky ExtraLasting Eyeshadow lasts 12 hours, and ExtraLasting Mascara is waterproof, transfer-proof and smudge-proof for 18 hours of full, fluttery lashes.
I’m only going to review the Extra Lasting Liquid Foundation with SPF 12 in this post since it’s the one I had the most doubts about.
I’m always quite skeptical of long lasting foundations since they usually feel really heavy on the skin and don’t look great. I decided to test this one out while on vacation in Florida since I knew it would be humid!
You can see it breaks up a little bit – I’m not positive but the white milky liquid could possibly be the sunscreen?
I found that I needed to almost ‘buff’ the foundation into the skin with my fingers to get the best finish. I didn’t have a foundation brush with me in Florida – I didn’t plan on spending too much time putting on a lot of makeup so I didn’t bring all my tools! But I found ‘buffing’ it in provided a nice natural finish with great coverage. I was also able to use only one pump of this to cover my entire face – sometimes I even had some left over.
One warning – while this foundation is water and humidity RESISTANT it’s definitely not waterproof. I found out the hard way when we went for a swim and I forgot I had a face full of make up on 😛
Avon Extra Lasting Liquid Foundation SPF 12 is definitely a heavier foundation than what I’m used to – I usually wear mineral powder foundation; but I’ve been looking for something with a bit more coverage. If you’re someone who is used to wearing makeup and is looking for a good humidity resistant and long wearing foundation for summer I would recommend this one. If you’re not used to wearing makeup I think you could still try this one out, but I would probably use it very lightly or just to cover up some of your problem areas.
I do wish Avon made a colour in between this one and the lightest colour which is Light Ivory which has a bit too much of a pink undertone for me.
Also note that I always wear a makeup primer – especially in hot humid weather so I didn’t try this foundation out on my bare face. However, given the test I did on the back of my hand I think this product proves it actually is Extra Lasting!
What do you think about this product or other “long lasting” products? Will you give this one a try?
Stay tuned for more reviews from this collection.
@Marusya VActually I was worried about this myself but I use my Clarisonic brush every night and it gets rid of everything!
@AnonymousHi Anon! The lightest shade available is “light ivory”.
What’s the lightest shade?
Very cool review! Makes me want to try this Avon foundie myself. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the review Elaine! I am still not much of a makeup user but I love learning more from pros (aka you). 🙂
@Make Mommy Chic I have a yellow undertone too! This foundation might be a little heavy for you if you’re used to a tinted moisturizer AND you have amazing skin so you probably don’t really need to cover up, but there are many shades and formulas available with Avon. If you do ever want more info feel free to email me! 🙂
@kileen Kileen, I was pretty amazed at it too! I think it’s worth trying out – very good price point too. I don’t know how it works in the US but in Canada Avon products are fully refundable so there’s really no risk to try it out!
@CallandraHey Callandra – no creasing at all! It actually blended so nicely into my skin. A lot of the times with foundations I get that creping effect around my mouth area but there was none of that with this product.
@SewPetiteGalI personally didn’t find it too heavy but I think it’s such a personal thing! With a lot of foundations when I put it on it feels fine but by mid morning I would feel like there was a build up of “oil” or just “heaviness” on my face. I didn’t get that feeling with this product even in the humid Florida weather. Might be worth a try for occasional use! As I mention to Kileen, the return policy in Canada is really great, you might want to check what it is for you before you try it out.
I’m also a mineral powder wearer (when I wear any) because I can’t stand to feel anything heavy on my face. On blotchy days, I do need more coverage though. Was it uncomfortably heavy?
Thanks for the review!
Very intersting Elaine!….I’m wondering how it did around the eye area?…any crinkling or wrinkeling?
wow, this foundation does look promising! how cool that the water just beads up on top. i’ve never tried Avon before but i’ll definitely be looking into it once i run out of my current foundation!
cute & little
Hi Elaine, I’ve always been very curious about Avon products, i’ve never used them but the feedback that I get about them is pretty good. I too, use primer on a daily basis (laura mercier) and I really cannot do without it. If i ever decide to part with my laura mercier tinted moisturizer (which i’ve used for 10 years) then I will think about this one. Do you think that it would be good for people with yellow undertones (like me?) Thanks for the post! Have a great weekend!
