BEAUTY ROUND UP: Sunscreens – protect yourself from the sun!

Posted on July 19, 2013June 25, 2014 by Elaine

Strangely enough I thought I posted this already but turns out I have not! This may be a bit late seeing as how were are already in the middle of summer but sun protection is so important all year round so I thought I would do a round up of some new sunscreens I have tried out recently.

Beautysets - Sunscreen Roundup
Sunscreen Roundupwith Pure + Simple, Ombrelle, SkinCeuticals

For the family: Coppertone has a wide range of products for the entire family. If you are picky about texture there will definitely be a texture for you. From the traditional lotions to continuous sprays (those are what my husband likes best) to even a mousse! I actually liked the lightweight texture of the mousse and it was easy to make sure the sunscreen was properly applied.

Yummy smelling: If you really hate the smell of sunscreen (I know many who do) then you will love this one from Eminence Organics. Some sunscreens that smell nice will smell like coconut or some synthetic version of it. But the Tropical Vanilla Body sunscreen (SPF 32) smells absolutely amazing!! It’s not too sweet either – I normally hate vanilla scents for this reason. Guaranteed you won’t mind applying this one as your regular body moisturizer which is a good thing as you should protect yourself year round.

Quick Drying: The biggest complaint I get about sunscreens is that they do no absorb or dry quickly and they leave a sticky residue. If this is you then the SkinCeuticals sunscreens are for you. Just a warning though they are really thin and runny so use caution or else the first time you could find yourself a mess! But other than this I really like this one. It leaves a *slight* white residue but honestly nothing obvious and it absorbs so well into the skin.

Targeting specific areas: The heat will make us sweat and re-applying sunscreen can be a pain especially on the face. This Ombrelle Stick (SPF 60) is perfect for targeting areas such as the forehead and nose that tend to sweat away sunscreen. This product is great for sensitive skin too and because it’s as solid stick is portable so perfect for carrying in your purse.

Skincare + Sun Block: Vichy is known for being a leader in skin care so who better to trust with sun block too? This all over body sunscreen dries quickly too and with an SPF of 60 is great even for the fairest skintones.

Mineral Block: My personal favourite for the face is the Pure+Simple one for oily/impure skin. It smells like peppermint (one of my all-time favourite scents) and it goes on really easily. You need very little and can apply your moisturizer or makeup right on top.  As I mentioned very little is needed – too much and you can have that white chalky look to you – which is ok if you’re going for the Casper look.

Another one I should mention that I have been using daily again is the one by Kellett Skin Care.

Kellett SPF

It’s also a continuous spray and I just find it quick and easy in the mornings to spray into my hands and apply to my face. It absorbs fast – I can apply my moisturizer right afterwards.

Do you have a favourite sunscreen that you are using this summer or wear year round?

  • Lately, I’ve been feeling a more subtle look. ☁️ Swapping out the black winged liner for a smidge of grey; trading in the full-coverage base for something a little softer. • Nail extensions that last weeks but don’t damage your natural nails?!?! Check out the process for getting Après-X nail extensions! There aren’t many salons in Toronto that offer this service, but so far, I’m a fan! I love bio-gel, but I have the WEAKEST nails, so after I get the extensions removed, my nails shred and take forever to grow back out. I heard about this soak-off style, and couldn’t wait to check it out for myself! I haven’t gotten them removed yet, but I’ll update you all when I do! ✅ durable like bio-gel ✅ light and thin ✅✅✅
  • Lip balm that changes color depending on your skin’s pH?! @winky_lux pH Lip Balm goes on clear, then transforms to a perfect color based on your skin’s pH (level of acidity). It’s so fun to see what color the balm becomes! It’s giving major mood ring vibes The formula is silky (not sticky), and the color lasts pretty well! So far, I’m impressed.
