I was recently asked if I’d be interested in taking a look at a book called “Bonding with Beauty” meant for mother and daughter bonding. Now, obviously I’m not a mother 😛 But I have a lot of friends and family members that are. I thought I would give the book a read and see if it was something I thought my friends and my readers might be interested in and I was pleasantly surprised.
When I was a kid I remember wearing my mom’s high heels and getting into her makeup all the time. It wasn’t that I wanted to look or be older, it was just imagination and play time.
I see a lot of girls today, especially pre-teens that dress way too mature for their age (in my opinion) and have heavy makeup on making them look less then…shall we say innocent?
This is why I really liked this book. It’s not a book that you would read cover to cover like a novel. It’s more like a reference to keep around and pass to anyone that you know who has a daughter and is going through a certain stage.
The author, Erika Katz covers everything from hair care and skin care to personal hygiene and diet. She offers quick tips on how to take those inevitable moments in a girl’s life and turn them into fun bonding and learning moments.
Erika herself is a mother of two and she wrote this book as “A Mother-Daughter Beauty Guide to Foster Self-Esteem, Confidence and Trust”. She strives to offer practical advice for building self-esteem, confidence and trust by teaching moms to open up a dialogue during the awkward preteen and early teen years. She believes that the tween years are a golden opportunity for moms to gain their daughters confidence.
Erika kindly shared one of her recipes for a DIY Fall face mask, perfect for this time of year!
2 tsp canned pureed pumpkin
1/2 tsp honey
1/4 tsp heavy whipping cream
Mix all ingredients and apply to face. Leave on for 10 min and rinse
Why: Pumpkin is rich in vitamin A, which is very healing to the skin and is essential to maintain and repair skin tissue. It also helps reduce lines and wrinkles.
Honey is a humectant. The cream moisturizes and helps flaky skin.

I think this book is great for any moms of daughters and would also make a really great gift. I plan on giving my copy to my cousin as her daughter is quite the girly girl (like me 😛 ).

Callandra, same here! My mom always dressed nicely for work but she was never overly girly – I think she enjoyed dressing me up rather than herself 😉

Heather I would say pre-teens or early teens, but there are a lot of fun ideas (such as the mask recipes) that even I want to do with girlfriends LOL! You and Kayla have definitely mastered mother-daughter bonding 😉
