FEATURE: Online Shopping with Gambita

Posted on June 27, 2013August 21, 2014 by Elaine

I’m always open to learning about new companies and stores and I love to feature those that I think would be a good fit here at Toronto Beauty Reviews. Recently I was approached about a new online boutique geared towards petites. Of course being a shorty myself this caught my interest!

Based in the US and founded by Caroline Misan Alvo (a petite herself), Gambita (which means “little shrimp in Spanish LOL!) is an online retailer designed to showcase clothing EXCLUSIVELY for women 5’4” and under.

First off I have to say I love the look of the Gambita site. For me the way a site looks (clean, easy to navigate) is almost as important as the products they are offering. Even when you hover on an image you will see two different looks and when you click on an item to find out more information the site lets you know the model’s measurements and the size guide tells you about the particular item and what size the model is wearing as opposed to giving you a generic size chart. It will even give tips such as “smaller on top – if you’re super busty you may want to steer clear” – Love that!

Of course the clothing available are gorgeous too, check out some pieces from the lookbook:

The outfits are all so beautiful! I’m also seeing the shipping and returns are free for Canadians too which is always a bonus. There is also free shipping for International orders with a minimum of a $50 purchase which is more than reasonable.

Gambita has curated the site by working with several designers to find the perfect petite friendly items and they pride themselves on great customer service. If you are in doubt about an item all you have to do is contact them and give them your rough measurements and they will be glad to walk you through what would work best for you!

Here are some items that have caught my eye:

Beth Romper by Yumi Kim

So…rompers have been growing on me. At first it made no sense to me (the whole bathroom thing) but one piece easy dressing for summer is really quite appealing! This romper is 100% silk and the length looks PERFECT on the 5’3″ model! I can see this being dressed down with gold flats and a denim jacket and dressed up with nude heels and a white blazer.

Kassie Jacket by Alice & Trixie

I am such a blazer girl and after getting so much use out of my current statement blazer I have been craving more! This beautiful navy and white patterned one is another 100% silk piece so it’s guaranteed to be a classic. Plus it can work well for casual wear, work wear and evening wear too!

Lady Doll Dress by Keepsake

What screams “summer” more than a flirty white dress? This one is amazing and it has pockets!!!

The back of the dress is very cute too though it might be too much work for me personally to style LOL! But perhaps for a beach vacation this dress could work!

In general I’m seeing sizing on the smaller side but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the site expand to offer a wider range of sizes for all petites.

So what are your thoughts on a petite exclusive site?  And what do you think about Gambita? If you’re interested in trying the site out here’s some great news! Caroline is generously offering my readers 20% off your entire order with this code: Gambita4TorontoBeautyReviews 🙂 But this code is only valid until July 27th!

  • Fresh nails for Spring! This was my first time getting a dip powder mani. It was so interesting! Apparently it’ll last about 3-4 weeks. I like that I didn’t have to cure the nails with a UV lamp, and that there was less filing than with biogel. I decided not to go with extensions today, but that’s an option as well. So far I’m a fan!
