If you’re looking for a light and sexy masculine scent for your man this summer Guerlain L’homme Ideal may be the right candidate! It includes notes of almond, leather and vanilla and is probably the least aggressive cologne I have ever smelled. It leaves a light fragrance when spritzed on the clothes and is a barely-there, pleasant scent. It isn’t one of those smells that fill a room when you walk in, which in many cases can be a good thing!

It is considered a “woody oriental” and has a very natural, organic smell. Guerlain is said to be one of the few perfume houses to use inimitable vanilla tincture. I also am fond of the clean lines of the bottle itself, with its beautiful square shoulders and an unmistakably masculine cap. It is decorated in an elegant taupe-coloured matte lacquer to highlight the fragrance’s intensity. The label also borrows what is said to be “orange’s joyful touch of seduction.”
The Reaction
My husband who never usually buys cologne for himself, is quite the happy guy. I get so excited when I receive something for him to wear — I then often smell little bits of it here and there as I go through his laundry to wash or fold. Every scent has personality — some more bold or subtle than others. You can see other men’s fragrances I have reviewed in the past both here and here. I cannot wait to add this bottle to the collection on our dresser. I think that maybe, he will soon have a bigger collection than me!
Is This Scent For You?
As I say with every new perfume or cologne — you need to try it for yourself in-store rather than just taking my word for it. Different smells react in various ways with people’s own personal body chemicals and what could smell great on one person may not smell quite as good on another. Crazy how that works huh? For myself I like to give the scent a few hours. Sometimes I initially love it and then cannot stand another breathe of it by the end of the day. It doesn’t mean that there is anything wrong with it, it’s just not the right fit for me.
That being said, this is one scent that I am quite enjoying smelling the subtle whispers of. Mircea (my husband) has yet to wear it out but I know he will as he was quite impressed with it when I presented it to him.
