Guest Post: Megan Joy

Posted on July 2, 2014March 30, 2020 by Elaine

Since I’m away on vacation I asked blogger friend Megan Joy who I met at the Spark Sessions conference last year what her favourite summer products were. Read on to find out her top picks.

*****

summer-favourites

Be gone snow! Be gone!

Summer is upon us, the polar vortex is no more. And while I won’t be experiencing the sweltering Toronto temps this year (I’m living in San Francisco) I still change up my skincare and makeup routine with each season. These are a few of my favourite things right now that are making me feel (and smell) super summery!

clarins-radiance-blus-golden-glow-booster

Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster

Oh Clarins how I love thee. I don’t ever really get tanned, I just get more freckles and that’s about all she wrote. Self tanner is a staple in my summertime skincare routine. I get the glow and colour I desire without having to sacrifice the health of my skin by going to tanned beds. What’s not to love?

The reason I love this one so much is because you can still use your favourite moisturizer, you simply add 2-3 drops of the Glow Booster to it and then apply. It’s buildable but requires such a small amount that this tiny bottle will last for months. Literally I’ve had it for over a month and use it several times a week. I’m not even half done!

benefit-they're-real-push-up-liner

Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Push-Up Liner

This gel in a pen liner is pretty revolutionary. It makes applying winged liner super simple, plus it’s waterproof! That means even on hot and sweaty Toronto summer days this liner ain’t going nowhere! The last thing you want is your makeup melting off your face. No bueno.

Plus you don’t need a brush and pot of gel liner like with traditional gel liners, everything you need is built right into this pen!

demeter-pina-colada

Demeter Fragrance in Piña Colada

I am new the world of Demeter. These colognes are made with 95% natural ingredients and their online store has over 250 different perfumes. Scents from Birthday Cake to Bourbon, you can pretty much find any aroma that you’re looking for! They can also be used as room fresheners, or a way to add a light scent to your fabrics.

“To make a great Piña Colada, the trick is to use both light and dark rum, a dash of bitters and a little double cream. Demeter’s Pina Colada is a luscious mixture of Cream of Coconut, Fresh Pineapple and Light Rum, blended to a perfect sweetness and richness.” – Demeter

This fragrance smells soooo good. I spray it on myself and also around the apartment. It’s remind me of being on a cruise with my friend Erin and sipping on Piña Coladas all day long. It’s sweet but not super sweet and it brings back such lovely memories of sunshine and warm weather. Perfect for summertime!

Also I thought that this would last a few hours at most, but this scent remained for over 8 hours. I’m impressed Demeter. Good on you.

What are you favourite products for the summer months? Let me know in the comments!

Such great picks Megan! Thank you so much for sharing…that scent sounds AMAZING and I’ll have to check it out 🙂

  • Trying out @fentyskin’s Cookies & Clean Detox Face Mask! I love a good mask, and goodness knows my skin needs a bit of help nowadays! ➡️This is one of the products I featured in my blog post about Black-owned beauty brands. I love that it’s not too drying, makes my skin feel refreshed, is cruelty-free, and is part of the Clean at Sephora collection! Have you checked out anything from Fenty Beauty or Fenty Skin? —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #blackownedbeauty #blackownedbusinesses #cleanskincare #fentyskin #cleanatsephora #claymask #charcoalmask #crueltyfree #crueltyfreeskincare #crueltyfreebeauty #torontopr #torontoblogger #selfcaresunday #skincareroutine #skincarejunkie #skincarelover #cleanskin
  • I got Botox! (Technically, I got Nuceiva, which is a different brand of neuromodulator, but does the same thing) I’ve been feeling uncomfortable with the fine lines on my forehead, and wanted to try out neuromodulators! It was easier and much less painful than I anticipated, but definitely was a bit of an emotional journey. ➡️ I got 24 units during this visit, at a cost of $11 each. (Cost will vary depending on brand of neuromodulator, the clinic you choose, and the person who does the treatment) ➡️ This treatment will probably last around 3 months, and then will

  • Fresh nails for Spring! This was my first time getting a dip powder mani. It was so interesting! Apparently it’ll last about 3-4 weeks. I like that I didn’t have to cure the nails with a UV lamp, and that there was less filing than with biogel. I decided not to go with extensions today, but that’s an option as well. So far I’m a fan! Do you prefer shellac, bio-gel, dip, or natural nails? —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #springmani #dippowdernails #dipmanicure #toronto #torontonails #torontopr #dipnails #nailinspo #bluenails #shortnails #opidippowder #organicnailbar #organicnailbarto #kingwest #freshnails #nailstagram #simplenails #nailsalon
