HOLIDAY HAIR: Spellbound Hair Design Studio Toronto

Posted on December 3, 2013March 30, 2020 by Elaine

Last week I told you about my new hair colour that I got a few weeks ago. Well last week I was asked to come check out Spellbound Hair Design studio in Toronto. I did mention that I just had my hair coloured so I was originally just going in for a cut and a shine treatment.

You may have heard about Spellbound Hair Design on this blog before back when I “walked the runway“. Well a new location for Spellbound Hair Design (the original location is in Markham) has opened up in downtown Toronto and is run by Carlos Phang and managed by Mike Baronowski. The downtown location is in an amazing area – right near Dundas square across the street from the Eaton Centre at 261A Yonge Street on the 2nd floor. Besides some of the salons in the mall itself I don’t think there are any of this type and quality salon in the area so it’s a great thing for the neighborhood. The salon just opened up and just needs a few more finishing touches.

When Mike took a look at my hair I explained to him that I loved the colour, however I was aware the reds tend to fade rather quickly so I was open to tips on how to preserve my colour.

Mike then decided we should do an ammonia free demi-permanent colour called “PM Shines” to add shine on top of my colour just to enhance it, make it shiner and last longer. Some notes about this type of colour: It lasts about 6 – 8 weeks and fades “on tone” so it’s a great option for blondes especially. There is a full range of colour however instead of grey coverage it offers “grey blending”.  Luckily since my hair was coloured not too long ago all my greys were nicely covered.

Check out this new drying machine! It actually moves AROUND your head and it really quiet! No more of those “bowls” that would cover your entire head and blow hot air so loudly you couldn’t hear yourself think. Mike confided in me that he was so happy when these came into the salon since he was made to sit under those traditional dryers as a kid when he was misbehaving in his mom’s barber shop – haha!
After the colour was set it was a quick cut from Mike and I learned more about him growing up in a barber shop in Massachusetts so he was literally raised in the industry – you could probably say it’s in his blood! He’s was also great about answering all my hair questions. I asked about special shampoos and conditioners to keep colour longer and he said as long as it’s not a clarifying or volumizing product most products are safe!

And here’s the after! Look how shiny my hair is!!! And the colour looks EVEN better and more refreshed! The shiny hair is due to the medowfoam seed oil in the PM Shines.
To help get your ready for the holidays Mike and Spellbound Hair Design Toronto are generously offering THREE amazing prizes to 3 of my readers!

  • Fresh nails for Spring! This was my first time getting a dip powder mani. It was so interesting! Apparently it’ll last about 3-4 weeks. I like that I didn’t have to cure the nails with a UV lamp, and that there was less filing than with biogel. I decided not to go with extensions today, but that’s an option as well. So far I’m a fan!
