Holiday Makeup

Posted on January 2, 2012March 30, 2020 by Elaine

The holidays seemed to be about glitter and sparkle this year especially.  I didn’t add any of this to my wardrobe but when I attended IMATS I discovered a line called LA Splash.  Having heard so much about their eye primer and sealer to be used for glitter or shimmery makeup I purchased this item along with  a lot of glitter!  I guess I was wowed by all the pretty sparkly glitter; let’s face it – I don’t lead a life where glitter it a necessity in my “beauty wardrobe”.

I only had one holiday party to attend.  So I figured why not add a touch of glitter to my eye makeup and try out my new products!

Here were my key tools:

LA Splash eye shadow sealer/base

LA Splash Body/Face Glitter in Sea Horse*
*My best guess is that this is Sea Horse, I honestly don’t know since I bought it in a stack of 5 colours!

Now please don’t judge me on my technique here! I have no clue what the proper way to apply this stuff is.  I just kind of made it up as I went 😛

I actually did a neutral eye using my UD Naked Palette then I applied a very LIGHT coat of the sealer base on my eyelid only where I wanted the glitter to stay.  For me this was concentrated on the outer part of my eyelid working inwards towards the middle.  I brought it up slightly towards but not into my crease.  Then with my finger I applied the a light coating of the glitter.  Trust me,  a light coating went a long way!

Here’s what it looked like (again, my first time, no where near the perfection of my make up artist friends!)

(Ack, eyebrows definitely needed to be cleaned up there 😛 )

And with my eyes open it was actually kind of subtle.  Perfect for the night’s event!
I really like this product a lot!  The sealer goes on tacky so you need only a little or your product will cake and crease which is never a good look.  And most importantly the glitter DID NOT BUDGE!
I can’t say I will be using the product often as I generally just do a neutral eye most days but it can be used under powder eye shadows too to intensify the colour.
Take a look at the difference here with one of the shadows from the UD Naked Palette:

You can definitely see how it changes the look of the eye shadow!  My only concern is that because the product is kind of tacky it might be hard to blend out eye shadows.  It would probably be best applied with the fingers but I guess I would have to experiment with that.

Has anyone else tried this or any other products from LA Splash?  What do you think about them?
Any tips you’d care to share?
