Holistic Vanity Damage Care Line

Posted on November 6, 2012March 3, 2014 by Elaine

Co-founder of the Pure + Simple spas, Kristen Ma has added to her Holistic Vanity Line with the new “Damage Care” line. This line is committed to treating cellular injury caused by sun, pollution and trauma.

We have all been bad to our skin at some point in our lives. Maybe we enjoyed the sun a little too much; slept in our makeup “just this one time”; or gave in to the urge to pop that pimple even though we’ve been told time and time again to keep our hands off!

Like the Rosacea Care line which launched in February, this line is very concentrated and contains no water.

There are five products in the Damage Care line. I was sent four of them to try out.

Rejuvenating Rosewater Cleanser ($30)
This face wash is very light and is perfect for delicate and sensitive skin. The base of the cleanser is Rosewater (obviously!) which is rich in vitamins and has rejuvenating active ingredients like Ginseng, Tamanu and Geranium. There was a point when we were transitioning from summer to fall (did anyone else think that happened so suddenly?!) and my skin was feeling out of whack. This cleanser was great at soothing my skin.

Brightening Hyaluronic Lotion ($68)
This lotion is designed to revive dull and dehydrated complexions. Hydration is boosted with hyaluronic acid and it also contains two types of seaweeds to treat pigmentation issues like sunspots and scars. This lotion is really lightweight – a bit too lightweight for me personally so I like to layer it with a face oil, even for the day. If you prefer lighter lotions as opposed to heavier ones, this is a good choice.

Regenerating Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil ($58)
This facial oil is designed to protect and shield damaged skin from the elements of the environment such as wind and sun. Did you know that Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil is a natural UV absorber? And it also promotes cellular regeneration and tissue healing which makes it perfect for this line. The oil has an orange tinge to it which made me a bit worried as I have read that sea buckthorn oil can stain your skin orange. But Kristen thought of that – Evening Primrose Oil was added to “loosen” the oil to prevent staining – and a bonus – it’s anti-aging too! My only issue with this product is the smell…I’m not a fan of it! But it doesn’t last too long so it’s something I can look past.

Resorative Raw Argan Oil ($58)
I love the story behind this one. Kristen found the Raw Argan Oil while in Morocco. It is made completely by hand in an all-female West Moroccan co-op using traditional methods. This product is anti-inflammatory which soothes and nourishes damaged skin. I like applying this oil on its own or layered with the lotion.
The last product in the Damage Care line is the Repairing Rosehip Skin Tonic ($38). This product is designed to reduce pigmentation and treat texture damage. It is made up of the nectar extracted from the rosehip fruit and is exclusively harvested once a year in made-to-order batches to avoid waste so this product is only available while quantities last.
This line will be available in November both in stores and online but it will launching at this year’s Whole Life Expo taking place on November 9, 10 and 11th. Be sure to visit the Pure + Simple team at booths 91 and 92.

  • Nail extensions that last weeks but don’t damage your natural nails?!?! Check out the process for getting Après-X nail extensions! There aren’t many salons in Toronto that offer this service, but so far, I’m a fan! I love bio-gel, but I have the WEAKEST nails, so after I get the extensions removed, my nails shred and take forever to grow back out. I heard about this soak-off style, and couldn’t wait to check it out for myself! I haven’t gotten them removed yet, but I’ll update you all when I do! ✅ durable like bio-gel ✅ light and thin ✅✅✅
  • Lately, I’ve been feeling a more subtle look. ☁️ Swapping out the black winged liner for a smidge of grey; trading in the full-coverage base for something a little softer. Not exactly sure why, but so far, I like it. ✨ Wearing @milkmakeup sunshine skin tint in light* + @uomabeauty drama bomb mascara* + @annabellecosmetics kohl eyeliner in charcoal* + @madeupbeauty_ lip conditioner in piña colada* + @lysbeautyofficial bronzer in motivate *gifted products @shoppersbeauty @natapr_ @matinee.studio @lexprcanada —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #subtlemakeup #naturalmakeup #crueltyfreemakeup #torontopr #muotd #softmakeup #everydaymakeup #affordablemakeup #thoughtfulchoicesatshoppers

  • Lip balm that changes color depending on your skin’s pH?! @winky_lux pH Lip Balm goes on clear, then transforms to a perfect color based on your skin’s pH (level of acidity). It’s so fun to see what color the balm becomes! It’s giving major mood ring vibes The formula is silky (not sticky), and the color lasts pretty well! So far, I’m impressed.
