One of the best things about IMATS (besides the make up haven itself!) are the classes. I WISH I had the time to attend more but I only made it to one, but it was certainly a good one!
“The Power of Colour” led by youtube guru Koren Zander and the beautiful model was none other than Tess of Makeup By Tess. Most of the people in attendance were make up artists but there were so many tips and tricks that even a novice like me was able to pick up.

Koren in his awesome Hello Kitty brush belt (and I’m not even a fan of Hello Kitty 😛 )

The all important colour wheel. I need to get myself one of these, great for determining which eye shadow colours to pair together, not to mention that it also applies to colour mixing my wardrobe!

Tess on the big screen. Fiona and I were wondering why this girl has no pores. She told us it was due to her Fresh Beautiful treatments!
-
Place complimentary colours (colours opposite each other on the colour wheel) beside each other but never on top of each other. Placing them on top of each other will “cancel” them out and the colour will look muddy
-
Always blend darker colour into the lighter colour with a really light hand and go in one direction (don’t do the “windshield wiper motion – that is for blending out the harsh lines of the colour at the edges)
-
As a general rule don’t apply colour past your last outer eye lash
-
When lining the eyes start from the middle and not the inner or outer edge. Extend line to last lash in the inside corner of the eye and on the outer corner of the eye
-
Always finish your eye brows – they frame the eyes!
LOL Lor, sorry, not that talented 😛
I’m sure there’s a long line up for Koren 😛
I know Tess is adorable! That’s a great idea, I tried to put on fake lashes once, it did NOT go well! I have no clue how to do it myself 😛
I do too Jen, it’s always nice to pick up new tips and tricks here and there 🙂
I know!!! I wish I had more time to play with makeup like this.
Tess admits she does have foundation on but seriously, even with a full face of makeup there’s no way I would be comfortable with the camera zooming in that close on me LOL!
LOL apparently he MAKES them!!!!
That’s awesome Tess, thanks for sharing your secrets 😉
the eyeshadow looks so cool!! Now can you do it on yourself for next week’s dinner?! pleease..
Oh those blended colors look fantastic on her lids! Can Koren come do my makeover?!
Love the eye make-up on Tess – she is so tiny and cute! The first thing I am going to learn how to do during my winter break is how to put on fake lashes! They look awesome.
Fantastic tips! I need to go to a makeup class 🙂 I do pretty much the same thing everyday.
Red Soles and Red Wine
Her eyes look amazing….I love fun makeup like this!
You are right.. She has no pores at all! At first when I saw, i thought it was a perfect makeup job!! 🙂
the first thing i thought was: “omg is that a hello kitty pouch? where can i get one?!” LOL
although i could never pull off those colors (i don’t wear eye shadow), it’s so pretty!
Great post, Elaine! Who is this model? lol j/k 😛
I have to admit, I do have some pores! lol It was just covered really well with Smashbox primer and MUFE foundation! But sshhhh, don’t tell anyone. haha
I used to have a lot of black heads on my nose in high school and beginning of university, but it started to minimize over the years as I started to take better care of my skin. I’ve done the fresh.beautiful treatments twice so far and I must say, you see the DIFFERENCE after each treatment and I highly recommended it!
