ON SCENE: Make Up For Ever Brunch

Posted on November 4, 2013 by Elaine

A while back I was asked to attend a Make Up For Ever Brunch  to highlight their new brush collection and learn about foundation basics. I was going to be out of town during the session so Oliva was kind enough to attend for me! Here is her recap.

Troy Jenson MUFE - via Oliva

In September, I went to a Make Up For Ever event where I got to meet celebrity makeup artist Troy Jensen (Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez are some of his clients) and learn about foundation basics. The event was held at The Eaton Centre inside Sephora. The MUFE section is every makeup lover’s dream. The set-up and atmosphere is similar to the feel of the backstage scene of a fashion show – sans craziness and chaos of course.

When we arrived we were given an overview of their brush collection…and they have a ton. A brush for every single function that you will need when painting a face.

I can’t wrap my head around it since I am not a professional but I am sure that the selection is very much appreciated by makeup artists. The brushes are vegan and have a very artisan look and feel about them. We were even told that the angled tip is handy for picking up pigment and applying falsies. How multi-functional is that?

During our beauty talk sit down with Troy we learned the following tidbits:

Tip: To bring runway looks to the red carpet, take one element and tone it down
Fact: He currently loves the colour orchid pink from vintage YSL
Fact: It takes about an hour to do celebrity makeup
Fact: He loves the look of tanned skin and beige lip.
Fact: He wanted to pursue music and art and is a self-taught makeup artist
Fact: His celebrity dream client would be Diana Ross but he loves working with a wide range of celebs.
Tip: Use highlighting makeup several ways: apply under foundation, upper cheek bones, upper lip, corner of eyes, clavicle and seam of legs and arms

After our beauty q & a with Troy we got to have our personalized foundation consultation. This is how mine turned out. Me likey A LOT:

Yvonne Macinnis, who is the boutique manager for The Eaton Centre location used the following products.

  • HD Foundation #123
  • Pro Finish #123
  • Sculpting Blush #12

Yvonne’s beauty tip: match blush to the colour of your lips for a natural look.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Stay beautiful! Xoxo

Here are a two of the brushes that I have:

MUFE brush 158

Brush 158 is a dual ended one and I use the angled side for bronzer and the rounded end to put blush on the apples of my cheeks.

MUFE brush 234

Brush 234 is an angled shadow brush which I use to apply eye shadow all over my lid and blend into the crease.

The MUFE brushes are all hand crafted from the island of Mauritius – it takes 25 steps and 30 people in the product process for each brush from start to finish!
Thanks so much to Oliva for covering this event for me!

***Disclosure: brushes were sent to me for review consideration***

  • In case you haven’t heard (lol), it’s the @sephoracanada sale! A perfect time to explore new products - here are three of my top picks! @danessa_myricks @lysbeautyofficial @patmcgrathreal For more info on why I love each of these brands, check out my post about Black-Owned Beauty Brands on the blog! —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #sephorasale #blackownedbeauty #danessamyricks #yummyskin #patmcgrathlabs #lysbeauty #luxurybeauty #crueltyfreebeauty #torontopr #bloggersofontario #beautywishlist #sephoravib #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors
  • Nail extensions that last weeks but don’t damage your natural nails?!?! Check out the process for getting Après-X nail extensions! There aren’t many salons in Toronto that offer this service, but so far, I’m a fan! I love bio-gel, but I have the WEAKEST nails, so after I get the extensions removed, my nails shred and take forever to grow back out. I heard about this soak-off style, and couldn’t wait to check it out for myself! I haven’t gotten them removed yet, but I’ll update you all when I do! ✅ durable like bio-gel ✅ light and thin ✅✅✅
  • Lately, I’ve been feeling a more subtle look. ☁️ Swapping out the black winged liner for a smidge of grey; trading in the full-coverage base for something a little softer. Not exactly sure why, but so far, I like it. ✨ Wearing @milkmakeup sunshine skin tint in light* + @uomabeauty drama bomb mascara* + @annabellecosmetics kohl eyeliner in charcoal* + @madeupbeauty_ lip conditioner in piña colada* + @lysbeautyofficial bronzer in motivate *gifted products @shoppersbeauty @natapr_ @matinee.studio @lexprcanada —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #subtlemakeup #naturalmakeup #crueltyfreemakeup #torontopr #muotd #softmakeup #everydaymakeup #affordablemakeup #thoughtfulchoicesatshoppers
  • Lip balm that changes color depending on your skin’s pH?! @winky_lux pH Lip Balm goes on clear, then transforms to a perfect color based on your skin’s pH (level of acidity). It’s so fun to see what color the balm becomes! It’s giving major mood ring vibes The formula is silky (not sticky), and the color lasts pretty well! So far, I’m impressed.
