ON SCENE: NYC with Aveeno and Patrick Melville

Posted on October 18, 2013March 30, 2020 by Elaine

Last week was a whirlwind for me and quite the adventure! If you follow me on either instagram, facebook or twitter you will know that I was in New York City last week as an Aveeno Ambassador!

I was so excited when I was invited to the Patrick Melville salon for an education session on the Aveeno Active Naturals hair products.

After a quick hair consult with Patrick himself I was whisked away to get my hair washed and conditioned with the line made for me: the Positively Nourishing MOISTURIZE Shampoo and Conditioner.
No surprise there – having curly hair my hair is always really dry and just craves moisture.
Aveeno Active Naturals - Positively Nourishing MOISTURIZE Shampoo and Conditioner

Patrick suggested that since my hair is so thirsty, after shampooing and conditioning in the shower I should take some extra conditioner and apply it to my hair without rinsing out and use it as a leave in conditioner.
At the salon the conditioner was used as a treatment too! Here I am sitting under the heat letting the conditioner do its job. As I was sitting here I had a plateful of treats and a coffee to warm me up even further (talk about VIP treatment)!

The moisturize line is perfect for dry and damaged hair (just like mine!). As with all the products in the line it was created by a team of experts which included a dermatologist and hair stylist. Wheat complex + hydrating oat protein quench thirsty hair and replenishes essential moisture so that weak hair can become strong again.
As an aside I also tried out the Pure Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner when I got back from Florida.

My hair was pretty wrecked from all the sun, swimming and the contrast of humid weather then air conditioning. When I got home I used this line and after just one use my hair felt healthy and manageable again!
I was honoured to have my hair cut by Patrick. I was so excited that after me he was slated to head out to do the hair of a really famous person (not sure I’m allowed to name them) in the next few days – eeeks!

Also another cool fact about Patrick: did you know that he is an amazing boxer?  Since my husband is really into boxing we had a pretty cool conversation about that. I always love when people have talents that are unrelated – just blows my mind! But when the worlds collide it’s pretty crazy – Patrick got to work with Mike Tyson but on a photoshoot – nothing related to boxing – haha!

Thank you so much for your hospitality Patrick! My hair felt so much lighter and moved so much easier.  What an amazing experience to kick off my NYC visit.
(if you’re curious both my top and pants are from LOFT)
Stay tuned for more posts on my Aveeno Ambassador experience + my NYC trip!
***Disclosure: I am an #AveenoAmbassador and was invited to NYC for this event. My transportation and accommodations were c/o Aveeno***

  • Fresh nails for Spring! This was my first time getting a dip powder mani. It was so interesting! Apparently it’ll last about 3-4 weeks. I like that I didn’t have to cure the nails with a UV lamp, and that there was less filing than with biogel. I decided not to go with extensions today, but that’s an option as well. So far I’m a fan! Do you prefer shellac, bio-gel, dip, or natural nails? —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #springmani #dippowdernails #dipmanicure #toronto #torontonails #torontopr #dipnails #nailinspo #bluenails #shortnails #opidippowder #organicnailbar #organicnailbarto #kingwest #freshnails #nailstagram #simplenails #nailsalon
  • I got Botox! (Technically, I got Nuceiva, which is a different brand of neuromodulator, but does the same thing) I’ve been feeling uncomfortable with the fine lines on my forehead, and wanted to try out neuromodulators! It was easier and much less painful than I anticipated, but definitely was a bit of an emotional journey. ➡️ I got 24 units during this visit, at a cost of $11 each. (Cost will vary depending on brand of neuromodulator, the clinic you choose, and the person who does the treatment) ➡️ This treatment will probably last around 3 months, and then will
  • Trying out @fentyskin’s Cookies & Clean Detox Face Mask! I love a good mask, and goodness knows my skin needs a bit of help nowadays! ➡️This is one of the products I featured in my blog post about Black-owned beauty brands. I love that it’s not too drying, makes my skin feel refreshed, is cruelty-free, and is part of the Clean at Sephora collection! Have you checked out anything from Fenty Beauty or Fenty Skin? —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #blackownedbeauty #blackownedbusinesses #cleanskincare #fentyskin #cleanatsephora #claymask #charcoalmask #crueltyfree #crueltyfreeskincare #crueltyfreebeauty #torontopr #torontoblogger #selfcaresunday #skincareroutine #skincarejunkie #skincarelover #cleanskin
