Petite Fashion Challenge #10: Summer to Fall!

Posted on August 31, 2011 by Elaine

Wow another Petite Fashion Challenge is here! This time it’s being hosted by Fashion For Teens

The Challenge:

…to take traditionally summer pieces (like tank tops, shorts, mini skirts, sundresses etc.) and make them appropriate for fall.

So…I was kind of stumped on this one.  I could always wear tank tops in the Fall – simple – just throw on a blazer/sweater! I am new to shorts and would not wear them in the Fall (the shorts and tights things is something I just can’t pull off) and I’m not a mini skirt girl!  I decided to take one of my favorite dresses from this summer and see what I could do with it.

This dress is also my VERY first Anthropologie purchase!  I just love the way this dress fits me.

Here I am in the dress on a summer night in Ottawa:

Dress Anthropologie Nathalie L’Ete size 0
Shoes: Browns ID size 7
Necklace: mark by Avon
Earrings: Birks

….and here’s my take on transitioning this dress for Fall
IMG_4203
Boots: Me Too size 7
Scarf: Dara Dot Designs
I’m actually not sure how I feel about this outfit, I don’t think it’s something I would actually wear out but I liked the idea of wearing fall booties with a colourful printed dress.  The scarf is something I’ve actually been wearing a lot.  It’s the perfect accessory – it’s lightweight so it doesn’t feel too hot but I love how it drapes and creates that layered look that’s perfect for Fall!
Another fall trend I tried to incorporate was a dark lipstick.  This is best done by keeping the rest of your makeup super simple.  I can’t really pull this look off either right now as I think you really do need close to perfect skin – which unfortunately I don’t have at the moment.  I’ve been suffering from terrible breakouts the past few months so this is not a trend I will be trying anytime soon.

    Oh my gosh, I love, love, love your first Anthropologie purchase! Good choice! I tried this dress on too but it didn’t fit me right. It’s perfect on you! You’ve done a great job styling it for fall. Booties and a dress is one of my favourite combos!

    I am sooo slow at commenting on these things. Anyway – great job. I like the combination of the dress with the scarf. We’re going away for the long weekend and I may try this for a dinner outfit, since the weather is starting to cool down here.

    That dress does fit you well! I always make sure I have a pair of booties but I always pair it with pants. I have to venture out of my comfort zone and try it with skirt/dress.

    @CynthiaC Thanks Cynthia!

    @A Fine Balance Glad you like it! I needed to do something other than a cardigan for once 😉

    @kileen Thanks Kileen! A couple of my favorite pieces all thrown in together.

    @petiteonthestreets.com Thanks! Yes it’s a simple transition but still out of my norm 😉

    @TaraMixandMatch The butterflies are so pretty aren’t they?

    @Kathy LOL I wear that necklace ALL.THE.TIME 😛

    @questforfashionsense.com I think the “shooties” are probably a must for fall – I’ve been seeing them a lot in this challenge too!

    @Make Mommy Chic Thanks Sharon! The scarf is so super soft, I never want to take it off when I have it on!

    @The Procrastinator Gah you’re so sweet! I’m glad I didn’t disappoint you 😉

    @Michelle Sent you a long winded email LOL, hope you got it!

    @The Little Dust Princess Thanks Jessy! I know I thought it was a bit of an awkward length at first but I kind of like it – makes it a bit different than wearing it the length of my pencil skirts. It looks great with heels!

    @PetiteLittleGirl awww thank you Sydney 🙂

    @Melissa I had a cardi with me that night LOL! I usually always have one with me for air conditioned places 😉

    @Style Journey Heather thank you so much! Oh yes a blazer would be perfect for Fall. I wear a blazer pretty much year round though so I wanted to go a bit out of my comfort zone 😉

    @CeeI will have to remember to bug my husband to take more shots of me LOL! ANNNND that’s assuming I’m in picture worthy outfits on the weekends LOL!

    @Callandra Thanks Callandra! I’m comfortable with booties and skinny jeans/pants but I feel weird with dresses/skirts. Guess I’ll just have to get used to it 😉

    Sorry about your breakouts! 🙁 Where do you usually get them? I had a bad case this summer along my right jawline…those horrible cysts! It started in June right after school ended and stopped when school began. Pretty sure it was because I was not in my regular routine! I would wash my face twice a day, but since I was off work, I would sit around for hours before washing my face.

If you’ve followed me for any length of time (or If you’ve followed me for any length of time (or met me in person for like 5 mins!), you’ve heard about my love for @lezethelabel 🤩

This brand is phenomenal. I love every piece of theirs that I own and wear a Lezé item almost every day.

@lezethelabel is:

✅ WOC founded
✅ Canadian
✅ Ethically produced
✅ Sustainably made using innovative fabrics (like 🌽 or material made from recycled fishing nets!)
✅ THE COMFIEST
✅ Designed for real bodies! (Big pockets, lots of stretch, extended sizing)

The humans in charge are also incredibly kind and generous. ❤️

➡️ Since it can be hard to figure out sizing when purchasing online, I put together this little lookbook for you. Basically, I wear a L in their items made from their recycled fishing net fabric, but an XL in the corn, since they’re a little closer to the body and I like a baggier fit in that fabric. I typically wear a size 14.

If you’re interested, check them out! And feel free to use my discount code (TORONTOBEAUTYREVIEWS15) for 15% off! 🔗 in bio. 😊

If you’re in the market for a new eye cream, I highly recommend checking out @sahajanskincare’s Golden Glow Eye Balm. ✨ It’s formulated with ghee (!) and feels sooooo silky and gorgeous. This powerhouse ingredient has been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine, and for good reason! This eye balm is mega hydrating but feels light and melts right into your skin 🤩

In addition to ghee, it also includes rose oil and eyebright - these high-performance ingredients work together to reduce puffiness, fine lines, and dark circles.

This Canadian brand is WOC-founded, and products are cruelty-free as well as eco-friendly. 🇨🇦🐇🌍

If you know me IRL, you know I’m a cleaning frea If you know me IRL, you know I’m a cleaning freak. 🙈🧼But, since I’m allergic to everything (fragrance, harsh chemicals, etc 😖) and also care about the environment, I try to find options that are natural as well as effective. 🌍🫧 That way, they’re gentle on my skin and the world, but tough on germs and dirt!

We’ve been using @nelliesclean dish sticks, stain stick, laundry soda for the past few months and LOVING them. ❤️ I even purchased Nellie’s Oxygen brightener recently, which is a bleach alternative that boosts color and keeps whites white. They WORK. (And look very retro chic!)
