Review: Vichy Normaderm Line for Acne Prone Skin

Posted on August 22, 2012March 30, 2020 by Elaine

After my skin diagnostic test at the Vichy Skin Health Centre Vichy was kind enough to hook me up with a bunch of products from their Normaderm line made for acne prone skin.

Deep Purifying Cleansing Gel // Micellar Solution for Eyes and Face // Purifying Astringent Toner //
Exfoliating Cleansing Gel

Tri-Active Anti-Imperfection cream // Total Mat moisturizing gel // Oil Free Salicylic Acid lotion

Let’s start with the items in the first picture above. I really liked the feel and the smell of the deep purifying gel cleanser. It’s very lightweight and didn’t strip my skin the way some cleansers can.

Overall I think this was a nice gentle cleanser that did a great job of removing my makeup and leaving my skin feeling refreshed.

The Micellar solution for face and eyes I wasn’t a fan of. If you don’t wear makeup and are looking for a really light cleanser this is the one for you.

I didn’t find it removed my makeup, especially my eye makeup very well. For me this one was a pass.

I really liked the toner. It’s actually not that easy to find toners these days. Whenever I wash my face I usually go over it afterwards with a cotton pad to make sure all my makeup is removed. The cleansing gel did a great job of removing most of my makeup but I used this toner to ensure there wasn’t a trace of makeup left. For some reason I ALWAYS have a bit of makeup along my hair line – no matter what, it’s weird! Must be my washing technique 😛

This toner left my skin feeling soft and refreshed and not dry at all.

The exfoliating cleansing gel was great too. I really love exfoliating my face – I’ve heard it’s a North American thing – you just feel so clean after a good scrub! This exfoliating gel was gentle and felt really nice as I massaged it on.

I was tempted to use this more than once or twice a week but I know you shouldn’t over do it especially with sensitive skin so I held back. The smell was really nice and light.

Next up was the Tri-Active solution. I had high hopes for this one but unfortunately my skin was too sensitive for it.

The skin around most of my face felt fine when I put this on but when I put it around my mouth area – the area that I’ve had the most issues with – it burned like heck! I took it off right away and no long lasting damage was done, the burning also stopped immediately when I washed it off.

The Total Mat cream was great. It really mattified my skin without drying it. Makeup went on with no problem.

The finish of this cream is so great that if I didn’t have to wear any makeup I’d probably just use this gel especially on humid days. It left my skin feeling comfortable – neither tight nor oily.

Finally, on to the Salicylic Acid Lotion. Again with this entire line I really liked the scent. Soft and fresh. This lotion was light and didn’t dry out my skin as some products with acne fighting ingredients can.

I would still recommend layering this under a moisturizer for extra hydration.

Overall I would say the Vichy Normaderm line is a really great choice for those who are acne prone. Most acne lines out there are meant for younger skin and can be fairly harsh. I like this line because almost every product I tried was super gentle on my face. As for efficacy – unfortunately for me this isn’t the line. I didn’t see a significant change or difference but I’m glad my skin didn’t get worse! This isn’t to say that this products don’t work however – I’ve been on a long journey to get my skin under control and I truly believe there’s something going on with me internally so no matter how great the product is, if I don’t get that corrected I won’t see results.

So, what do you think? Have you tried any of these products out? Are you willing to give them a shot?

If you’re unsure which Vichy products are best suited for your skin you can take this online quiz or visit a Shopper’s Drug Mart for your own personal skin diagnosis.

  • Fresh nails for Spring! This was my first time getting a dip powder mani. It was so interesting! Apparently it’ll last about 3-4 weeks. I like that I didn’t have to cure the nails with a UV lamp, and that there was less filing than with biogel. I decided not to go with extensions today, but that’s an option as well. So far I’m a fan!
