TESTING, TESTING: Kellett – solutions for clear skin

Posted on November 20, 2012March 30, 2020 by Elaine

Everyone’s skin is different. Which is why sometimes reviewing products for this blog can be difficult as I know for myself my skin is hard to figure out! That being said, something that works for me may not work for you and something that doesn’t work for me may be the perfect solution for you!

So while I can’t give an in depth review of this product as my skin is too sensitive for it, it may be a good solution for some of you.

Suffering from adult acne is different than the acne you get as a teenager. When I was a teen I just used the harshest products I could find to dry those pimples out! Probably not the best solution but as a teen your skin is thicker and can recover much quicker so I was lucky to not have any scarring afterwards. Now that I’m an adult it’s strange – my acne seems to be worse 🙁 I’m constantly looking for solutions to help clear it up.

I really liked that Kellett SkinCare was specifically targeted for adult acne – very difficult to find products like this on the market today.

The Clear Skincare Regimen kit ($220) comes with 4 products.

The polishing gel cleanser ($45) is a gentle exfoliant that feels great on my skin. The acne fighting ingredient is Salicylic acid but it’s about the 11th ingredient on the list. the cleanser also contains ingredients such as Jojoba oil.
From the website here are the key ingredients and their benefits:

  • Advanced Moisture Complex ®: Slows transepidermal water loss for soft, smooth skin
  • Canadian Willowherb: Helps prevent inflammation and reduces red and brown marks
  • Alp-Sebum ®: Helps to reduce excess sebum production
  • BV-OSC ®: Stable form of Vitamin C helps fade pigmentation and reduce appearance of fine lines and pigmentation
  • Polyethylene Beads: Gently exfoliates skin’s surface
  • Salicylic Acid: Helps reduce the appearance of acne blemishes
  • Mediacalm ®: Soothes and reduces inflammation
  • Vitamins E and A: Anti-oxidant vitamins
  • Papain & Bromelain: Provide gentle enzymatic exfoliation
After use my skin felt really smooth and this cleanser didn’t irritate my skin. This gel is meant to reveal fresh and healthy looking skin while helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

The clarifying acne treatment ($75) contains benzoyl peroxide. I had to be really careful with this product – when I put it on it I felt a burning sensation on my skin. It could be that I’ve developed a sensitivity to benzoyl peroxide, whatever the reason I decided not to continue using this product. Here are the key ingredients for this product:

  • Curoxyl®: Gel form of Benzoyl Peroxide that treats acne with less irritation
  • Bodyfensine®: A unique peptide that stimulates skin’s natural defense system to fight
  • acne and help prevent infection

  • P-Refinyl ®: Lentil Seed Extract reduces sebum secretions
  • AC Net ®: Inactivates the bacteria and yeast that lead to acne
  • Aquacacteen ®: Prickly Pear Elixir soothes irritated skin
  • Aquacell ®: Provides short and long term hydration

I was told to use this product every other day and just as a spot treatment if I was sensitive but I didn’t want to risk it. If you don’t have a sensitivity to benzoyl peroxide then this product might be a good choice for acne fighting.

Because using acne fighting products can make your skin susceptible to sun damage the Kellett kit contains
an SPF 30 sunscreen spray ($35). Spray this into the palms of your hands then apply to your face. Protecting your skin from the sun also protects the skin damage which can lead to premature signs of aging.
Here are the key ingredients of the sunscreen:

  • Homosalate, Octinoxate, Oxybenzone: Organic sunscreens absorb UVB and short wave UVA rays
  • Aloe Vera Oil: Skin soothing properties
  • Jojoba Esters: Hydrating properties

It’s great that in contains Aloe Vera Oil to soothe the skin.

Finally there is the moisturizing gel ($95). This is a really nice lightweight gel that absorbs into the skin really easily. I did note that this contains Dimethicone so if you’re weary of silicones then this product may not be ideal for you.
The key ingredients:

  • Bodyfensine ®: A unique peptide that stimulates skin’s natural defense system to fight acne and help prevent infection
  • Advanced Moisture Complex ®: Slows transepidermal water loss for soft, smooth skin
  • Dermican ®: Anti-aging peptide improving skin’s firmness and thickness
  • Syn-Coll ®: Tripeptide helps reduce appearance of fines lines and wrinkles, promotes collagen synthesis
  • Syn-Tacks ®: Peptide technology that helps increase skin tone, firmness and compactness
  • Tego Smooth Complex ®: Increases skin cell turnover for improved skin radiance
  • Eurol BT ®: Olive leaf extract provides powerful anti-oxidant protection
  • Gatuline IN-Tense ®: Instant and long term skin tightening
  • AC Net ®: Inactivates the bacteria and yeast that lead to acne
  • Canadian Willowherb: Helps prevent inflammation and reduces red and brown marks

All the products in this line are free from synthetic fragrances, parabens, dyes and sulphates. which is really great to know that there are no unnecessary ingredients. This kit is definitely on the pricier side but those who suffer from acne will agree that if a product works you’ll spend the money on it. There is a trial kit that contains smaller sizes of the products (all but the sunscreen) for $75 so you can see if these products will work for you. Just remember to use your own sunscreen to protect your skin.
Dr. Lisa Kellett is a well known dermatologist who practices in Toronto. While not all the products in this line worked for me I do believe these are great products and I think anyone suffering from acne should at least give this line a try.

  • Fresh nails for Spring! This was my first time getting a dip powder mani. It was so interesting! Apparently it’ll last about 3-4 weeks. I like that I didn’t have to cure the nails with a UV lamp, and that there was less filing than with biogel. I decided not to go with extensions today, but that’s an option as well. So far I’m a fan! Do you prefer shellac, bio-gel, dip, or natural nails? —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #springmani #dippowdernails #dipmanicure #toronto #torontonails #torontopr #dipnails #nailinspo #bluenails #shortnails #opidippowder #organicnailbar #organicnailbarto #kingwest #freshnails #nailstagram #simplenails #nailsalon
