TESTING, TESTING: Kona Kare Lip Butter Balms

Posted on January 7, 2013 by Elaine

Happy New Year, lovely readers!

I’m always interested in trying out local cosmetics – I think it’s almost essential for blogs like us to really put out the word in terms of really amazing local and Canadian cosmetic companies. Last year was amazing for local finds (Dot & Lil, anyone?). Luckily, I’ve stumbled across yet another wonderful local cosmetic brand that could really make an impact in the industry.

Introducing …. Kona Kara Cosmetics and their fabulous ‘Lip Butter Balms’.

Product: Kona Kare Essensual Lip Butter Balms in Chocolate Peppermint & Peaches & Dream

Price: $8.00 CAN (online)
Available: Online here
Background: Kona Kare is an online boutique based out of Mississauga, Ontario (a suburb a little less than 30 minutes outside of Toronto). It’s headed by Mikayla and Nadim – friends, lovers and now, business partners! They’ve created a formula for the perfect lip butter – a butter made out of all natural ingredients.
Founders of Kona Kare – Mikayla & Nadim!
First Impressions: The packaging the lip butters come in is so sophisticated and elegant. I love it! It’s wrapped in a tiny informational leaflet, with a ribbon. Too cute.
Review: Now, we all know I’m OBSESSED with moisturization. That obsession increases 10 fold when it comes to lip care. I’m never seen without a lip product of any kind and I am MOST sensitive about products when it comes to my lips. I won’t use just anything.

That being said, these butters are to die for. First and foremost – the scent. The Chocolate Peppermint smells divine – so good I could practically eat the butter! The Peaches & Dream one smells just as amazing – a nice blend of fruitiness that isn’t too overpowering. My favourite by far though is the Chocolate Peppermint – it’s really hard not to lick it off my lips!
The product itself glides on so smoothly, it’s hard to believe it’s a lip balm. You won’t need a ton of product, just one swipe is enough to coat the lips. It’s thick enough to last, but smooth enough to feel just like butter. And the best part? It’s not sticky at all!

I think this product is ESSENTIAL to any woman suffering from dry, cracked, winter lips. Your lips will soak up this product, and the all natural ingredients are so beneficial to your body.
And the best part? It comes in four different flavours: Original, French Vanilla, Chocolate Peppermint and Peaches & Dream.
Verdict: Amazing! The Chocolate Peppermint has a permanent place in my purse.
If you look at their website, it also has an amazing deal – all four lip butters for $25.00!
Has anyone tried any of Kona Kare’s lip butters? As always, my email is ashley@torontobeautyreviews.com.

  • Fresh nails for Spring! This was my first time getting a dip powder mani. It was so interesting! Apparently it’ll last about 3-4 weeks. I like that I didn’t have to cure the nails with a UV lamp, and that there was less filing than with biogel. I decided not to go with extensions today, but that’s an option as well. So far I’m a fan! I love a good mask, and goodness knows my skin needs a bit of help nowadays! ➡️This is one of the products I featured in my blog post about Black-owned beauty brands.
