Testing, Testing: Pelle Beauty

Posted on January 16, 2013March 16, 2014 by Elaine

I was delighted to be contacted by Marnie Cipriani the found of Pelle Beauty to try out some of their products. Canadian based and using organic certified ingredients as well as being vegan will always pique my interest!

I was sent a travel kit to test out which contains the PelleClean Gentle Cleansing Gel, Facial Mist, Facial Concentrate and Lip Balm all in a see through cosmetics case.

(I forgot to snap a picture of the lip balm!)

I had meant to use it over the holidays but it just slipped my mind. On my recent trip to Ottawa I thought it would be perfect to bring with me and test out in the cold Ottawa weather.

First Thoughts:

I love the packaging! So sleek and simple. And love the lack of colouring. I was quite excited to try these products out.

Method:

The instructions that come with the kit say that the cleanser can be used for face and body. I don’t know about you but I never use stuff on my face for my body…maybe I should but I prefer to save “the good stuff” for my face. I still always cleanse my face with almond oil or coconut oil first. I wear a lot of make up and prefer to use the oil to break down everything first. I then lathered some of this cleanser into the palm of my hand and used on my face. There isn’t much lather as this cleanser is SLS free. After rinsing I closed my eyes and sprayed the facial mist all over my face and neck. It was very light and had a nice citrus scent to it. I then followed with the facial concentrate right away as the instructions say to apply on very damp skin. I used just a few drops and massaged it all over my face concentrating on my chin and around my mouth as these are the areas of my face that get both dry and oily (at the same time if you can believe that).

Wrap Up:

I’m REALLY impressed with these products. I know when I love a product when I try to use as little as possible because I don’t want to waste it LOL! My husband almost used the cleanser because he thought it was shower gel and I stopped him in the nick of time!

The cleanser is very simple and just works. I had no residue left from either the oil I previously used or the cleanser itself. It didn’t strip my skin at all, just left it feeling cleansed. The facial mist took some getting used to – it really just feels like I’m spraying scented water on my face but I enjoyed following up with the Facial Concentrate which is kind of like a serum / face oil. This is probably my favourite product of the three. If your skin is fairly balanced you could forgo the moisturizer and just use the concentrate. I felt I didn’t need to add another moisturizer to the better parts of my skin but I chose to use a moisturizer anyway as I was paranoid about my skin reacting to the Ottawa wind and cold.

The lip balm did its job. It was very moisturizing and it easily glided on. I didn’t feel any thing spectacular for it though.

I think these products are great for a variety of skin types including sensitive. The only caution I would give is that these products contain nut oils so anyone allergic to nuts should stay away!

The kit with travel sized products retails for $48.95. Not bad considering the 30 mL Steller Facial Concentrate goes for $42.95.

If you’re looking to give natural skin care a try I’d definitely recommend checking this line out!Find out more about Pelle Beauty on twitter and on facebook.

  • A quick reminder that Pride doesn’t stop after June. As I mentioned in my Pride post last year, I’m very aware of the privilege I hold as a White, cis, straight-passing queer woman. Celebrating Pride openly is not a risk to my safety. I can choose to whom I disclose my orientation and when. My identity is generally not seen as a threat or a negative thing. This is absolutely not the case for so many in the 2SLGBTQ+ community. ➡️ As companies move away from the “rainbow washing” of their branding for the month of June, please continue to
