THE LOOK: Rihanna at the Grammy’s ’13

Posted on February 17, 2013 by Elaine

Say what you will, but there was no one better dressed at the Grammy’s this past Sunday than songstress Rihanna.

Her red tangerine dress was by Azzedine Alaia, her jewellery by Neil Lane, and her shoes by the always coveted Manolo Blahnik. Her makeup was on spot – subtle enough to not upstage the dress, but profound enough to make an impact (hello, red lips!). Even though the Grammy’s instilled a strict ‘dress’ code, Rihanna bent the rules a little bit with this sheer number. It may have been a risk, but it was an extraordinarily one. This dress goes down in the books as one of the best that has donned the Grammy red carpet!

Now, how can we achieve Rihanna’s stunning look? It’s not too hard – read on!

THE DRESS

The dress is an iconic one. Rihanna is using colour as a bold statement choice and she’s pulling it off dramatically. Want to create a dramatic look with a bold statement colour? How about this dress from J.Crew? For $290.00 CAN, this dress is made from silk chiffon and floats away from the body fantastically – much like Rihanna’s! While it’s not to the floor like Rihanna’s dress, this dress is more than perfectly catered to the common ‘cocktail’ hour. A great party or a night on the town, this dress is perfect! The low V-neck draws emphasis to the decolletage and shoulder area. While Rihanna’s dress draws emphasis above with it’s bandeau and sheer top, this top draws the eye up with an impressive neckline.

THE HAIR

Ombre hair is so on-trend. Rihanna is rocking a beautiful ombre trend here that flatters and frames her face. L’Oreal Ombre Hair Colour by Preference provides an easy way to get Rihanna’s look at home. With a built-in special applicator brush, you provide the lighter colour to specific hairs and sections of your hair. Available in three different hair shades, choose the one best suited to you! Rihanna rocks a darker ombre – what’s your shade? Should be in stores soon – if not, amazon.com is the place to go!

THE LIPS

Rihanna is showcasing a downsized makeup look here – she’s known to take risks with her makeup and make outlandish statements! Here she pulls off a bold red lip. It’s such a statement with the red dress! Want to pull off a bold red on your own? Maybelline Colour Whisper in ‘Who Wore It Red-er?’ allows you to pull off the lips with added moisture and longevity. Retails in most drugstores for $8.99 CAN.

THE NAILS

Rihanna pulls upon the tangerine colour flecks in her dress with her choice of nail colour. Essie Nail Colour in Pink Strawberry Bliss is a pretty blend of pink and orange – almost orange than pink! It’s not too matchy-matchy to the dress, but it’s a great compliment to the colour. This nail colour usually retails for $7.99 CAN or over.

THE JEWELLERY

Now, the jewellery is always the main feature! Rihanna never misses an excuse to showcase ‘bling’! Here, she’s wearing well known designer Neil Lane. See to the side for some close ups of the jewellery – they are simplier than nature than some of the other pieces she’s worn. Luckily, we can recreate this look with relatively inexpensive pieces that go with the outfit / match Rihanna’s look. Forever21 Canada provides the four pieces showcased here – Pointed Ring Set ($5.80 CAN), Rhinestone Cut Out Ring ($7.80 CAN), Sparkling Pyramid Ring ($5.80 CAN) and the Rope Chain Bracelet ($4.80 CAN). All these pieces for less than $25!

Thanks to beautysets.com, my above Rihanna look was actually trending for part of the week! Thanks to everyone who viewed it.

  • Fresh nails for Spring! This was my first time getting a dip powder mani. It was so interesting! Apparently it’ll last about 3-4 weeks. I like that I didn’t have to cure the nails with a UV lamp, and that there was less filing than with biogel. I decided not to go with extensions today, but that’s an option as well. So far I’m a fan! Do you prefer shellac, bio-gel, dip, or natural nails? —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #springmani #dippowdernails #dipmanicure #toronto #torontonails #torontopr #dipnails #nailinspo #bluenails #shortnails #opidippowder #organicnailbar #organicnailbarto #kingwest #freshnails #nailstagram #simplenails #nailsalon
