Visit to Ottawa: Arc The Hotel and THANN

Posted on December 21, 2011 by Elaine

A few weeks back my husband had to make a work trip to Ottawa so I decided to tag along so I could meet up with ML.  She suggested we stay at “Arc The Hotel“. This beautiful boutique hotel has modern rooms with the most comfortable beds ever.  Really.  As I mentioned, the husband was there for work but he never wanted to leave the cozy bed and pillows 😛  We’ve stayed at the W Hotel in Montreal a few years ago and I would say these two hotels are in competition for the comfiest beds!

The photos above are of the hotel lobby and are courtesy of Arc The Hotel via Marilou. Here are a few pictures of my room (sorry, quality isn’t that great – we arrived crazy tired at 2am and I wanted to snap photos before crashing for the night!)

While my husband was at his work appointment I decided to check out the much heard about THANN store and that’s where I met up with ML.  I was pretty excited since I always hear ML raving about THANN products and I got to try a few of them out since they are provided in the hotel.

The store itself is gorgeous.  It smells wonderful, but not overwhelming.  And it’s very welcoming.  As I was browsing I got to sip on a nice cup of tea, which was much needed as the Ottawa weather that weekend was pretty brisk for this Torontonian.

^I was able to test out some of the scrubs and body butters at this station^

All the products are beautifully displayed, they make perfect gifts as the packaging is so pretty.
Let me tell you as I took these pictures these were the ONLY few minutes this store wasn’t filled with customers.  There was a steady stream of regular buyers as well as passerbys.  I even met a guy from Toronto who was doing all his Christmas shopping for his mom, sister and girlfriend there!  He bought stuff for himself too 😉

Of course at this time of year stocking stuffers are a must.  The sizes of these products are great for travel and this particular collection – Aromatic Wood – is the line provided at Arc.

While I was hanging out at the store, I was treated to a mini facial using some of the skin care products.  They felt wonderful on my skin! I was worried my skin would feel tight or dry afterwards but I didn’t have that feeling at all! I was merely a bit self conscious about not having any make up on (eeks!) but other than that, my skin felt great 🙂

I was finally able to meet the famous Fadi Ghaby the man behind the Ottawa store.  He seriously exudes so much passion about the products – and it was true passion I tell you, not just trying to tell me stuff LOL!  Fadi definitely lives and breathes THANN.  And I can see why.  The products feel and smell so good.  When I walked into the store I was drawn to the scent of Jasmine.  The Jasmine Blossom Collection was calling my name but sadly it was sold out 🙁  I placed an order anyway and I actually received my shipment last week!  Christmas presents for the grandmothers! But that means I still have none of my own so I will have to place an order soon.

I also picked up the Aromatic Wood Scrub and the Shiso Body Butter as a gift for my mom (hope she isn’t reading this!).  I had to pick up the Body Butter for myself too.  The products are definitely a luxury.  I can honestly say I haven’t spent this much money in the past on body products, but I do feel they are worth it.  I feel pampered every time I use my body butter.  And why not?  Our skin is the largest organ of our bodies and is exposed to crazy temperature changes – we probably SHOULD be treating our skin better!

If you’re ever in Ottawa be sure to stop by the store.  Sadly the only one in North America!  But of course you can shop online at www.thann.ca.

So with that said, I will definitely be making a future purchase for the body butter, and of course the Jasmine collection for myself.  But…I’m hoping to WIN the body butter!  Twenty York Street and THANN are hosting a giveaway where you can win a ONE YEAR SUPPLY of the  SHISO BODY BUTTER!!!!
You don’t even know how excited I am at the possibility!

  • Fresh nails for Spring! This was my first time getting a dip powder mani. It was so interesting! Apparently it’ll last about 3-4 weeks. I like that I didn’t have to cure the nails with a UV lamp, and that there was less filing than with biogel. I decided not to go with extensions today, but that’s an option as well. So far I’m a fan! Do you prefer shellac, bio-gel, dip, or natural nails? —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #springmani #dippowdernails #dipmanicure #toronto #torontonails #torontopr #dipnails #nailinspo #bluenails #shortnails #opidippowder #organicnailbar #organicnailbarto #kingwest #freshnails #nailstagram #simplenails #nailsalon
  • Trying out @fentyskin’s Cookies & Clean Detox Face Mask! I love a good mask, and goodness knows my skin needs a bit of help nowadays! ➡️This is one of the products I featured in my blog post about Black-owned beauty brands. I love that it’s not too drying, makes my skin feel refreshed, is cruelty-free, and is part of the Clean at Sephora collection! Have you checked out anything from Fenty Beauty or Fenty Skin? —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #blackownedbeauty #blackownedbusinesses #cleanskincare #fentyskin #cleanatsephora #claymask #charcoalmask #crueltyfree #crueltyfreeskincare #crueltyfreebeauty #torontopr #torontoblogger #selfcaresunday #skincareroutine #skincarejunkie #skincarelover #cleanskin
